Death on Millburn Tracks a Presumed Suicide

NJ Transit trains were delayed in Millburn tonight, following what waiting commuters were saying was a suicide on the tracks.  The incident happened a little after 6; at 8 p.m. ambulances and police cars still thronged the small station.  The station was single-tracking all traffic, with all passengers asked to wait on the westbound side.  The incident happened on the eastbound side, where at 7:30 p.m. the remains were under tarps.  Parking lot attendants said they heard a squeaking sound, as if the train were braking.

Barry Wolfson of Millburn was on the 5:46 p.m.from Penn Station.

We got stopped in Maplewood at 6:15 or so.  First they said there was police activity in Millburn.  Then they said there was a trespasser on the tracks, then a fatality.  At that point I got out and walked to my house, which is a 15 minute walk from Maplewood.

Trains behind in either direction were being held.  An investigation was still going on as of this writing at 8:00 p.m.

Onlookers recalled a suicide in Short Hills two months ago.  Another Millburn resident, a retired police officer, told Baristanet that there is a suicide like this every two years or so.

I guess that’s why my wait for the 8:37 train went way past the departure day (STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY STAND BY ). I got so tired of waiting, without any explanation or estimate of when the train would board and depart, I left, walked up to Port Authority and caught the 9 pm bus.

    Walleroo,

On behalf of the grieving family and friends of the troubled soul who chose to end their life in this horrific fashion, and the NJ Transit employees who had to spend most of the evening removing human remains from the train track area, our sincerest apologies for the gross inconvenience you apparently suffered last evening in having to walk 7 blocks.

gee, thanks “yougotta”, for being the moral compass for us all. how lucky we are to have you to explain the interconnectedness of life to us in such a condescending manner. really helps get your point across.

the problem is, i can’t have empathy or understanding if NJ Transit doesn’t explain anything to anyone.

I'm starting to see that our political strife on this planet and definitely here on B'net is due to a lack or abundance of Oxytocin. We can't help what we do or think, our bodies, dna, etc. are running the show. We are meat puppets to our hormonal & chemical urges. In the words of the immortal Bela Lugosi...."Pull dee string, pull dee string!" PAZ in Ed Wood land.
