The freak October snowstorm that let so many without heat or food in the fridge reminds us of how hard it is to be struggling with those issues on a daily basis. Thankfully, Montclair’s Human Needs Food Pantry helps those in need — with help from you. Turkeys are needed — and if you are a frequent shopper at a particular supermarket you can earn a free turkey (Brookdale Shoprite offers this program). If you “earn” a turkey that you don’t need, Human Needs Food Pantry would love for you to donate it to them. Besides turkeys, they are loooking for all the fixings — canned yams, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, gravy, piecrust mix, pumpkin-pie filling. Drop off dates are November 20-22, 9 a.m. to noon, at 9 Label St. in Montclair (near the corner of Forest St.).
Besides food items, Human Needs Food Pantry gives warm blankets to clients when cold weather hits. Bring brand new, or clean and gently used blankets, as well as sheets and towels, any Tuesday or Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and noon to 9 Label St., Montclair. Call 973-746-4669 with any questions.

Our preschool is doing a food drive for the Human Needs Food Pantry – last year’s went really well. Canned veggies like green beans, collards or spinach, pearl onions, and soups like cream of mushroom and broths are very helpful as well.
