Occupy Montclair, which you can find on Facebook, wants to take Thanksgiving to Zuccotti Park.  It plans to bring 200+ individually packaged hot vegan meals to occupiers on Thanksgiving Day.

The group is looking for two to three volunteer drivers who can pay for tolls and gas, as well as 20 to 50 people to cook hot vegan meals for the occupiers. The staging area is 86 Elm St., Montclair, on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24th, departing for Zuccotti Park at 12:30 p.m.

“For me personally, what good is Thanksgiving without really having something to be grateful about,” says organizer Roger Fox. “I have my health and my family, but this year I am hopeful and grateful for OWS, the very birthplace of the Occupy Movement. OWS has changed the conversation we are having in this country, and I’m very grateful for that. If these people are going to put their hearts, minds and souls on the line, the least we can do is feed them on Thanksgiving.”

On 11/16/11 at approximately 4:25 PM, police were dispatched to an apartment building on Greenwood Avenue on a report of three individuals engaged in drug activity in one of the stairwells. Upon arrival, police located three individuals. Police noticed the strong odor of burnt marijuana in the stairwell and found a blunt containing marijuana near the three individuals. Police arrested the three suspects, which consisted of Elelake Jefferson Jr., Rasheed Riley, and a seventeen year old Montclair female. Further investigation revealed that Jefferson was in possession of fourteen zip-lock bags containing marijuana and thirty-four empty zip-lock bags.

Jefferson, 18, of Montclair was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance within five hundred feet of public housing located at 50 Greenwood Avenue, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $7,500.

Anyone wishing to report drug activity is asked to call 973-509-4720.

Drug Arrest

On 11/17/11 at approximately 11:40 PM, police were in the area of Gordonhurst Avenue in Upper Montclair when they observed a Toyota driving east on Gordonhurst Avenue at a high rate of speed. Police stopped the vehicle in the area of North Fullerton Avenue and Wildwood Avenue and identified the occupants as Michael Thomas, 23, of Montclair, Sara Cusenza, 23, of Montclair, and Ellis Wilson, 22, of Montclair. During the course of the stop, police smelled the odor of raw marijuana and further investigation yielded seven zip-lock bags of marijuana. A total of $534.05 was seized as suspected proceeds from drug distribution. All three were placed under arrest and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. Bail was set at $5,000.

Drug Arrest

On 11/18/11 at approximately 5:15 PM, detectives were in the area of Orange Road in the South End when they observed two individuals engage in a hand exchange consistent with drug distribution. One of the males continued on Orange Road on bicycle and was detained near Rosedale Avenue while the other continued into Orange. Detectives detained the male on the bicycle, later identified as Frank Bagley. Further investigation revealed that Bagley was in possession of five zip-lock bags containing crack cocaine and a crack pipe.

Downtown Fights Back

Christmas decorations showed up in stores before Halloween this year, but Black Friday is still the official start of the Christmas shopping season. And the competition is already getting intense, with big box stores opening at midnight and online retailers planning to lure customers out of lines with fierce mobile campaigns.

So how about Main Street — or in our case, Church Street, Bloomfield Ave., Valley Road and Maplewood Ave.?  Do indies have a chance?

To Thanksgiving Restaurant We Go

BY  |  Monday, Nov 21, 2011 4:00pm  |  COMMENTS (18)

Making a Thanksgiving meal can be fun– poring over Gourmet magazines, finding the best ginger, maybe baking some Pillsbury crescents.  Still, it’s a lot of work.  If you want the meal but not the prep and clean-up, there are many options in Baristaville where you can relax into the rich l-tryptophan soaked turkey (or something else, if you prefer) , ranging from formal and expensive to casual and economical.  Many are close to full, but all say they expect cancellations and it’s worth getting on a wait list.  I just got off of one today– which means I’ll be cancelling two other reservations.  Here are some options!  If you’ve been to any or have other suggestions, please tell us! Susan Pinkwater: The Clairidge Needs Help!

BY  |  Monday, Nov 21, 2011 2:15pm  |  COMMENTS (24)

The Clairidge theater is one of my favorite places in Montclair. I boast about it to my New York friends. We have our own indie theater that shows all the movies I want to see, as opposed to where I often end up because my kids want to see some mainstream, kooky love story, or a movie about metallic creatures who turn from trucks into loud humanoid destroyers. Plus, movies are my drug of choice.

When I saw the posting that someone had been bitten by bedbugs while at the Clairidge, I was horrified. I read post after post about people grieving over their favorite theater. Some took the forum as an opportunity to vent other issues they have as well with the theater’s small screens (did they not notice the new comfortable seats?) the price of parking and even Obama.
