If there’s one thing for sure–this weekend will be a hell of a lot better than last weekend. Sure, there’s clean up to do, but anything is better than what last Saturday’s Nor’Easter brought to Baristaville. Take this weekend to do something enjoyable–you’ve earned it.
Some Halloween events were postponed so you can enjoy them this week, like Strut Your Mutt at Brookdale Park. Others, like Art on Tap, have adapted to let families enjoy a night out together.

On Friday, The Montclair Operetta Club will present Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice’s Rock Opera Jesus Christ Superstar at the Bloomfield College Westminster Arts Center. Based on a rock opera concept album project written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice before its first staging on Broadway in 1971, Jesus Christ Superstar chronicles the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. As seen through the eyes of his disciple, Judas Iscariot, who has become disillusioned with the movement, the musical is based loosely on the Gospels’ account of the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem, and ending with the crucifixion. “If you were in NYC during 911, but had grown up Christian in the Midwest” says Director, Bob Cline, “you’ve already thought, ‘What if Jesus came again today, or what if Judgment Day is right now’. Well that is where my ideas for this show came from. How would Jesus be treated, if this man were walking on earth today.”The show will run this weekend and next.

On Sunday, see the mouth-watering photographs in Pastry Paris, a collection of photographs of the world’s most enticing pastries set against the background of one of the world’s most iconic cities. Susan Hochbaum, author and graphic designer, took the sweets out of their display cases and photographed “on location” at Paris’ best-known sights and everyday streetscapes, illuminating the visual and cultural connections between the city, its architecture, its culture, and its wildly beautiful desserts. Hochbaum will be at Watchung Booksellers discussion and signing her book. After you can’t take it anymore, head over to Petit Paris on Church Street for some of those delicious pastires. The macarons are amazing.
