Oprah Winfrey has been called one of the most influential women in the world. Her critically acclaimed talk show, which ended in May, ran for 25 years and attracted millions of devoted viewers.
Now, author and Montclair resident Deborah Davis has penned a book chronicling the iconic show. The Oprah Winfrey Show: Reflections on an American Legacy (Abrams) is an authorized history of the show that includes a foreword by Maya Angelou. A coffee-table book filled with photos of Oprah and her many guests, it also includes essays by a roster of bold-faced names from Nelson Mandela and Elie Wiesel to John Travolta and Julia Roberts. Publisher’s Weekly has called it a “lavish and loving tribute to the personality, icon and philanthropist [that] makes a case for Oprah’s centrality and influence on American culture.”
On Dec. 8, the Adult School of Montclair will be hosting an evening with Davis at Montclair High School, where she will discuss the book and do a signing.
