You didn’t think I would write up South Fullerton Ave. and leave some of the best stores out did you? Well of course not. And if you were wondering where you can buy fair trade gifts in town that are very reasonably priced, I have you covered!
First stop, Terra Fair Trade Cafe (in the Montclair Public Library). The cafe now has a wonderful gift store open through December 24th. The store is filled with hundreds of interesting, colorful and very reasonably priced items. Order a nice hot cup of tea then walk around the Cafe and shop (I call it “Tea and Shopathy”).
Here are some of the wonderful items in the Cafe priced between $45-$12-
- Handmade Jewelry
- Handmade bowls from recycled magazines (pictured left)
- Ornaments
- Bags
- Tea pots
- Gourmet food items
- (check the slide show below to look at the cases stocked full of wonderful items)
Next stop is down the street a bit to Essex Fine Arts Gallery a wonderful store that has been a Montclair staple for 25 years. Owner Diane Israel has stocked her store with all kinds of beautiful fair trade items and artisan jewelry.
Here are some of my favorites:
- Eiffel Tower earrings( and other designs)-$25 and matching box- $5
- Oilcloth bags available in a variety of sizes-$10-$30
- Recycled sari items-$10-$15
- Fair Trade Jewelry-$25-$30
Now across the street and to the corner of South Fullerton and Church St. to Tory Janes. So, you are thinking what gift could I buy at a shoe store? How about a pair of winter liners for your Wellies?
My favorites from Tory Janes:
- Winter fleece liners for Wellington boots-$30
- Tights and socks- various prices
