Residents who ride NJ Transit trains from the Watsessing Station, and who live or work in the station vicinity are being urged to attend a brainstorming/discussion tonight. The purpose is to begin to strategize and create a plan for land use, pedestrian mobility, traffic calming and redevelopment, that will utilize funding from a grant the township was awarded to create a Transit Oriented Design Plan for the Watsessing Neighborhood.

The funding is being provided by a Smart Future Grant from the NJ Office of Planning Advocacy, and is meant to to ensure a “critical mass” of residential and neighborhood services in walking distance of the Watsessing Station, which currently achieves much lower ridership than the more centrally located Bloomfield Station.

The session gets underway tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Bloomfield Civic Center at 84 Broad Street.

  1. Was an interesting meeting. Lots of ideas on how to develop the area. Unfortunately it did not look like many folks from around the station showed up–residents, business owners or even the councilman representing the area. Perhaps Carlos had a previous engagement.

  2. In fact, the only Township Council representative who attended up was Nick Joanow. Paul Lasek, the township engineer also showed up. You would think that at least a few other members of the council, especially the at-large members, would stop by to share ideas and discuss concerns on this topic.
