The final 2012 report from the Bloomfield Police Department, provided by Sergeant Anthony J. Servedio, includes details of home burglaries, the theft of $900 worth of lottery tickets from a store, and an arrest of a man on charges of illegal possession of a gun, ammunition and impersonating a police officer:
BURGLARY
12-24-2012 – On the 1000 block of Broad Street, a resident of an apartment complex reported that at 5:26 pm, a suspect attempted to enter her apartment through a living room window. The suspect fled the scene on foot and was described as being a black male, 5’10-5’11, wearing a denim jacket and wool cap. A search of the area by Police proved to be negative in finding the suspect.
12-27-2012 – On the 200 block of Ampere Parkway between the hours of 1:45 pm and 5:50 pm the victim reported that an unknown suspect(s) entered through a bedroom window and removed a large amount of currency that was hidden in a bedroom dresser. The investigation is ongoing by The Bloomfield Police Department CID Unit.
12-28-2012 – A storeowner on the 300 block of West Passaic Avenue reported that a suspect broke into the store through a rear window and stole cash.
12-30-2012 – On the 400 block of West Passaic Avenue a suspect broke into a store through a front window and stole $200.00 dollars in cash, cigarettes, and scratch-off lottery tickets.
BURGLARY INTO AUTO
12-25-2012 – On the 200 block of N 16th street an unknown suspects broke into a vehicle and stole a GPS unit and a credit card.
12-25-2012 – On the 100 block of Grove Street a vehicle was broken into and some loose change was stolen.
12-27-2012 – On the 100 block of Ridge Ave between the hours of 1:00 am and 10:30 am a 1999 Lexus was broken into through a passenger door. Sunglasses, an I Pod and some audio equipment was taken from the center console of the vehicle.
STOLEN VEHICLE
12- 20-2012 – On Franklin St. between 12:00 midnight and 10:00 am a 2004 Subaru with N.J. license plates was stolen.
12-22-2012 – On Bloomfield Ave. a 2001 Nissan with N.J. license plates was stolen.
12-25-2012 – On Ridge Ave. a 1993 Ford van with N.J. license plates was stolen.
ATTEMPT THEFT AUTO
12-25-2012 – On Royalton Pl. a vehicle was broken into and the ignition was damaged.
12-25-2012 – On the 100 block of Ampere Parkway a owner reported that an unknown suspect broke into his vehicle and damaged the ignition.
THEFT
12-24-2012 – On Belleville Ave. the store owner stated that a male suspect stole $900.00 in scratch-off lottery tickets.
12-25-2012 – On the 500 block of Bloomfield Ave., the victim reported that an unknown suspect stole his cell phone.
12-27-2012 – On Andover Pl. the victim reported that a Hugo Boss watch was in his bedroom prior to receiving a delivery. After receiving the delivery his watch was missing.
ROBBERY/CARJACKING
On December 22, 2012 at approximately 10:45 pm, the Bloomfield Police Department Communications Division broadcast a BOLO to patrol units in reference to a MV pursuit underway by the City of Newark Police Department. The vehicle being pursued, a 2005, 4 door, white Infinity, bearing a temporary N.J. license plate was wanted in connection with and for questioning of a possible carjacking that had occurred earlier that evening in either the City of Irvington or the City of East Orange. Shortly after Newark Police Officers ended their pursuit of the suspect vehicle on the Garden State Parkway northbound near exit #148, Officer’s Jeff Alfonso and Edward Dwyer located the vehicle traveling on JFK Drive North in Bloomfield and began following the vehicle. At this point the vehicle began traveling east on Bloomfield Ave. and was confirmed through a computer record check to be stolen out of the City of Newark. Officer’s Alfonso and Dwyer continued the pursuit until the suspect vehicle came to a stop on Freeway Drive East in Newark. 4 suspects fled from the vehicle on foot at which time Officer Michael Moleski arrived on the scene to assist with an area search for the suspects as they fled through an apartment complex. A short time later a suspect was spotted by Officer Moleski, on Sussex Ave. near Freeway Drive East. The suspect was ordered to stop but he instead he fled for a short distance, until he was caught and placed under arrest by Officer Moleski on Sussex Ave. This suspect, identified as Kareem Tamir Beverly, age 20 from East Orange was transported to Bloomfield police HQ’s where he was charged with:
1- Receiving Stolen Property
2- Resisting ArrestBail was set at $20,000.00 by the Honorable Judge Pirone
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
12-25-2012 – On the 200 block of Ampere Parkway, the victim reported that an unknown person smashed the driver side mirror off of his vehicle.
12-26-2012 – On Grove St. between 12:00 midnight and 11:00 am the vehicle owner reported a damaged door lock and window on his 1997 Jeep.
12-26-2012 – On the 200 block of N 17th St. between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:23 pm a broken window was reported on parked vehicle.
12-29-2012 – On Grove St. the victim reported that a suspect broke the passenger side mirror off of her vehicle.
ARREST
12-25-2012 – Stephanie Mercedes of Bloomfield was arrested for obstruction and criminal mischief.
12-25-2012 – Tyrone Pasley of Newark was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
12-25-2012 – Jonathan Martinez of Newark was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
12-28-2012 – Angel Alicea of Bloomfield was arrested for Warrants.
12-28-2012 – James Parker of Newark was arrested for outstanding warrants.
12-29-2012 – Jacob Jimenez of Newark was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer, and the unlawful possession of a weapon.
On December 29, 2012 Officers Sean Courter, Thomas Icolari, Daniel Freitag and Sgt. Anthony Nigro, responded to the area of JFK Drive North and Franklin St. on a report of a suspicious condition where the occupants of two vehicles were involved in some sort of dispute between each other. Upon arrival to the area Officer Courter attempted to stop one of the vehicles involved in the dispute however the driver ignored his attempt to pull him over and continued on for a short distance before finally stopping. The vehicle a 1999, black, Ford Crown Victoria with tinted windows was being driven by the eventual arrestee, Mr. Jacob Jimenez, age 21 from Newark. As Officer Courter approached the vehicle, the driver held out a gold badge from the drivers side window and said that he worked for the Newark Police Department. After being questioned as to weather he was a Police Officer, Mr. Jimenez said that he was a volunteer. While waiting for Mr. Jimenez to produce his driving credentials Officer Courter noticed a handgun holster on the rear seat of the vehicle and when asked if he possessed a handgun Mr. Jimenez responded “no”. After back-up Officer Icolari arrived on the scene and the rear of the vehicle was illuminated through the tinted glass with a flashlight, a handgun was observed in the rear of the vehicle on the floor. As the silver 9mm blank gun was recovered from the rear floor of the car a second handgun was noticed. This was a Glock .40 cal. handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.
Mr. Jimenez was placed under arrest and transported to Police HQ’s where he was eventually charged with:
1- Impersonating a Police Officer
2- Unlawful possession of a weapon
and other various charges related to MV charges as well as evidence located in the trunk of Mr. Jimenez’s vehicle after a search was completed. The items found consisted of:
1- 12 hollow point bullets
2- 40 regular bullets
3- 4 pair of handcuffs
4- A bullet proof vest
5- Pepper Spray
6- An air soft handgunBail was set at $25,000.00 by the Honorable Judge Paparazzo.
Also, an investigation by The Newark Police Department is being conducted as the incident originated in The City of Newark near Heller Parkway, when Mr. Jimenez allegedly activated emergency lights and a siren installed in his vehicle in an attempt to pull over the second vehicle involved in the dispute.12-29-2012 – On December 29, 2012 Officer’s Sean Courter and Paul Charles stopped a vehicle in the area of 444 Broad St after responding to a call of a fight outside of the McDonalds. After stopping the vehicle and the driver, identified as Mr. Larry Thomas Sprately, age 22, from West Orange opened his window to produce driving credentials a strong odor of marijuana was observed coming from the vehicle. A rear seat passenger Mr. Saheed Baksh, age 23, from West Orange was witnessed by the Officers hiding something under the front seat which later turned out to be a half full bottle of Vodka. While the driver was retrieving his registration from the glove box a baggie with marijuana was observed by the Officers and the occupants were asked to exit the vehicle. As the occupants were being handcuffed Mr. Baksh fled on foot before being caught and placed under arrest by Sgt’s Edward Proskey and George Ricci. The other arrestee’s were identified as: Mr. Tyson Carter, age 22 from West Orange, Mr. Chris Rankine and Mr. Marlo Williams.
After all the suspects were transported to Police HQ’s the following charges were filed: Mr. Sprately, Mr. Carter, Mr. Rankine, Mr. Williams and Mr. Baksh were all issued summonses for 1- Possession of CDS in a vehicle 2- Possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle 3- Possession of marijuana and 4- failure to wear a seatbelt. All parties were given a court date of January 8, 2013.
Mr. Baksh was additionally charged with resisting arrest. Bail was set at $4,500.00
Mr. Williams who refused to be fingerprinted or photographed by becoming violent and combative was charged additionally with assault on a Police Officer, resisting arrest and hindering apprehension after it was found out that he had given false information as to his real name which was Mr. Justin Chase. Bail was set at $13,500.00
The other suspects were released ROR however as a follow up to the investigation it was
determined that Mr. Rankine had also given false identification and was in fact Mr. Shaquan Lewis From West Orange. Mr. Lewis was located at his home by West Orange Police, re-arrested and transported back to Bloomfield where additional charges were filed for hindering apprehension and awaited transport to Essex County jail for 2 additional warrants that were found under his new identification.12-30-2012 – Lawrence Williams of East Orange was arrested for outstanding warrants.
12- 31-2012 – Marlon A. Benjamin of Paterson was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
