The Next Act After Montclair Council? Making ArtWhat to do after a stint on the Montclair council? Former Mayor Jerry Fried and Councilor Africk are both pursuing artistic endeavors. Today, from 2-4 p.m., is the opening reception of Nature/Nurture – a colection of black and white photos by Jerry Fried, at the Montclair Office of Prudential New Jersey Properties, 92 Church St.

And last night, Studio Montclair had an opening reception for State of the Art 2013, which runs through April 22 at Academy Sqaure’s SMI Galleries, 33 Plymouth Street, Montclair (hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m). Among the artists featured in the show curated by Patterson Sims, independent art curator, writer, and consultant, and a former director of the Montclair Art Museum, is a work by former councilor Cary Africk.

Earlier this month, Africk had three pieces featured in a showing at the Visual Arts Center in Summit. Here’s an example of his work — part of his hauntingly beautiful Mountain Fog project:

THANK GOD! Though I have admit that I really, really liked the bands that Bowery brought in... Let's hope it won't be too pop-centered with LiveNation.
