02/12/2013
Thefts:
On 01/25/2013, at 0918 hours, Officers took a walk in report of a theft of a generator. The complainant/owner of the Thai Elephant food truck informed officers he was conducting business in the area North Fullerton Avenue just north of Chestnut Street. He set up at approx 1000 hours placing his Honda 3100 portable generator outside the truck. He packed up about 1145 hours and went home when he realized he forgot his generator. When he returned to the location it was gone. Anyone with information contact Det. McCarthy at 973 509 4725.
On 02/08/2013, at 2225 hours, officers responded to the Montclair Ambulance unit on Walnut Street on a theft from a motor vehicle. An employee at the unit informed officers that he parked his black 2012 Chevy Tahoe in the Walnut Street lot in the area designated for the ambulance unit workers at approx 1800 hours. At 2200 hours he was standing out in front of the unit with a co-worker when he heard his car alarm. He looked in the direction of his vehicle and observed a black SUV pull out of the parking space located on the driver’s side of the complainant’s vehicle. Suspect vehicle was last seen heading east on Walnut. Complainant checked his vehicle and found the door lock had been pushed in to gain entry. The contents of the front seat and glove box had been thrown about the vehicle. Only item missing was the vehicles valet key. Anyone with information contact Det. Cunningham at 973 509 4716.
Burglaries:
On 02/04/2013 at 1838 hours, officers responded to the 600 block of Bloomfield Avenue on a report of a burglary. The caller informed officers that she arrived home from work at approx 1800 hours and discovered the back door to her apartment was open. She also noticed some personal belongings she had stacked near the door were disturbed. She checked further and realized her white Apple Macbook and a set of BOSE computer speakers were missing from her living room floor. There was no sign of forced entry and it appears the rear door may have been left unlocked. Anyone with information contact Det. J. Anderson at 973 509 4706.
On 02/07/2013 at 1114 hours, officers responded to a Gates Avenue address on a report of an attempted burglary. Officers were informed by the caller that she noticed a basement hinge window on the north side of the apartment complex kicked in. She last observed the window in tact on Feb. 4th. Nothing was taken and entry did not appear to have been gained.
Vandalism:
On 02//2013 at 1607 hours, officers responded to the area of 66 Brookfield Road on a report of graffiti. Officers observed a telephone pole near the above address with the words “GOURM” and “CRANE” in black spray paint. The pole was last seen free of any markings on Feb. 1st.
Arrests:
On 02/09/2013 at 0056 hours, officers were patrolling the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Park Street. Heavy snow was falling when they observed a gray Nissan Altima traveling south bound on Park Street proceed through a red light and make a left heading east on Bloomfield Avenue. They then observed the vehicle again disregard the red traffic light at Church Street and Bloomfield Avenue. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of 406 Bloomfield Avenue. While speaking to the operator a strong odor of alcohol was detected coming from the operator’s breath. Several field sobriety tests were conducted in the lobby of 406 Bloomfield Avenue due to the severe weather. Twenty six year old Aubrey Khaleel of Wheatley Heights, NY failed these tests and was placed under arrest for DWI. He was also issued traffic summons for failing to observe a traffic signal at the two intersections.
Fraud:
On 02/11/2013 at 1514 hours, police took a walk in Fraud report. Officers were informed by the owner of Edgar Anthony Aspen Hair Group, spa located at 255 Bellevue Avenue, that he was a victim of a Fraud. He stated that he was contacted by an individual via telephone who represented himself as a PSE&G employee. This person was seeking immediate payment on the account or threatened to shut off power at the spa. He was directed to get a “Green Dot” pre-paid card to make payments. He made four payments during the month of January totaling $1,200.00. After the individual attempted to have him make a fifth payment he became suspicious and called the main number to PSE&G. He was told that no payment to the account had been made and that he would not have been directed to use a pre-paid card by the company.




Geez. A green dot prepaid card?? And he fell for it?
