Penguin Awareness Day

penguin.jpgThere seems to be a "day" for almost everything...national waffle day, international surfing day, and even Penguin Awareness Day. Today, you can celebrate the little waddlers at Turtle Back Zoo.

I love penguins for several reasons. First, they are so damn cute. Secondly, they mate for life--not many other animals, including humans, have the loyalty and determination to make a relationship work that long. And my favorite thing about penguins is that after Mom lays the egg, Dad carries it around and takes care of it until it hatches.

Turtle Back Zoo welcomes four new African penguins to its Penguin Coast exhibit. There will be crafts, videos, and activities to celebrate:

Penguin Awareness Day
Who: All ages.
What: Celebrate penguins on Penguin Awareness Day! The zoo's penguins will have a new home in their renovated exhibit which replicates the South African coast line where these birds are found in the wild. Watch the penguins, enjoy crafts, coloring, videos and more.
Where: Turtle Back Zoo, 560 Northfield Avenue, West Orange, New Jersey, 07052.
When: Wednesday, January 20 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Cost: Free with zoo admission: $5 children / $7 adults / Children under 2 free / $5 seniors
