Ugh!!!
Here we go with equating all minor holidays with a Chirstian biggie all so non-Christian boys and girls can feel good about themselves.....
Do people really listen to this stuff?
And yes, I do feel superior because my family dances around singing Weezer's "I want you to" rather than this "family" music.....

since the Jews have been celebrating Hanukkah long before Christ came on the scene maybe the good prof might let them have their songs and candles.
No one is talking about which is older.
I'm talking about the significance of the day.
Hanukkah is a minor holiday that has only recently been elevated.
Christmas is, was and will always be the day celebrated by Christians as the birth of Christ.
A major event.
A simple point to understand.
Mama Doni is an incredibly talented songwriter and awesome performer. She has incredible stage presence and her clever lyrics which try to keep the dying Yiddish language alive are fun for even jaded adults. I don't like much kids music but Mama Doni is worth listening to. She is my go-to gal for unique birthday presents. I have a stack of her CDs in my closet for easy gift giving :-)
What do you mean "recently elevated"
Do you mean the incessant Hanukkah tv specials? The myriad dreidel displays at EVERY toy store? The copious latke demonstrations at all the supermarkets? The gingerbread Holy of Holies contests? The hebrew songs practiced in the public schools? The mile long line at the mall to sit on Juddah the Macabee's lap?
I mean with all THAT how dare this woman release her CD for a such a minor holiday? What gall!
and not to mention that the Jews were soooo clever that they started concocted this minor holiday 3 or 4 hundred years before any celebrations of Christmas. They even somehow anticipated that Christmas would be moved by an early pope to winter (from likely spring) to compete with pagan winter solstice celebrations. They had this minor but adaptable holiday all ready to upstage Jesus!
Crafty, those Jews.
Oy vey I'd love to win these tix!
ROC,
It's almost as if you want to get worked up over something that does not exist. As I wrote: "I'm not talking about which holiday is older." So your bait with some, thinly veiled charge of anti-semitism is WAY OFF BASE.
But get worked about about it- make stuff up, create straw men to make your point-- I don't really care...
If this woman wants to sell here CD, God Bless her.
The point that we now have to offer Hanukkah, Kwanzza, and all the others at the same time, with equal weight to Christmas is not lost on many Christians.
If you want to go on with another baseless rant, go ahead.
Equal weight? It's a CD release!
I don't think you are anti-semitic. Just tone deaf.
And your comment that all the immense attention the majority culture gives this minor holiday so that "so non-Christian boys and girls can feel good about themselves"
is 1. not true. and 2. offensive.
I don't know any Jews which look to the majority culture and it's "attention" to Hanukkah for self esteem.
I think they're pretty much happy with a few candles, a CD or two and a nice Chinese dinner on Christmas.
Lastly ROC,
Whenever someone writes or says something like: " Crafty, those Jews."
I know a real conversation/discussion is IMPOSSIBLE.
Kinda like calling someone a racist-- There's no where else to go.
So the prof simply walks away......
all right, that comment was below the belt.
I don't think however that Christmas is in any danger of being upstaged.
Ironically, if Jesus came back today he'd likely recognize Hanukkah and not Christmas. In biblical times only pagans celebrated their birthdays.
To get back on point - I like to take my kid to these concerts to see the pure joy on his face as he sings along with and dances to the songs.
