Do you have a Tween or Teen? If you're not shipping them off to sleepaway camp this summer, this list of local day camp options will help.

There is a camp for all types of kids: the artist, the athlete or the kid who likes to travel. Not every camp is listed, though we tried to include as many as we could. Send us an email if you know of a great camp that isn't on our list. Both of our summer camp lists will be updated as the registration season goes on, so check the summer camp link on the sidebar of our page often.

Magic for Muggles Summer Program
Where: Magic for Muggles, St. John's Episcopal Church's Parish Hall, 55 Montclair Avenue, Montclair, NJ.
Who: Harry Potter fans ages 8 - 13.
What: Program, led by two Montclair teachers, that brings the magic of Hogswarts school alive: playing quidditch, wand making, HP Jeopardy, discovering magical creatures, and making House banners.
When: 4 sessions - the weeks of June 28th, July 5th, July 12th, and July 19th from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. daily.

Girl's Volleyball Camp
Where: Verona Community Center, 880 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona, NJ.
Who: Kids in 4th - 8th grade.
What: One week volleyball camp.
When: July 12 - July 16 from 9 am - 12 pm.

Youth Baseball Camp
Where: Week 1 - Verona Community Center, 880 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona, NJ.
Week 2 - James Caldwell High School, Westville Road, West Caldwell, NJ.
Who: Children in kindergarden - 7th grade.
What: A one-week baseball camp.
When: June 28 - July 2 and July 19 - 23 from 9 am - 3 pm.

Talium Summer Camp
Where: Talium Head Quarters, 161 Fairfield Road, Fairfield, NJ.
Who: Ages 5 and up.
What: Learn TaeKwonDo, enjoy Korean culture arts & crafts and go on a field trip every Friday.
When: Weekly sessions from July 19 to August 27 from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.

Deerkill Day Camp
Where: 54 Wilder Road, Suffern, NY. (845) 354-1466
Who: Kids ages 3 - 14
What: A fun-filled day camp with many outdoor and indoor activities in Suffern, NY, Door-to-door transportation from Montclair.
When: June 28 - August 10. New campers may enroll for 2 weeks or more. All other may enroll from 4 - 8 weeks.
Cost: Varies by age group: 3 - 4-year-olds: 2 weeks ($1,275) - 8 weeks ($3,600) / 5-6-year-olds: 2 weeks ($1,275) - 8 weeks ($3,600) / 7-14-year-olds: 2 weeks ($1,600) - 8 weeks ($4,550). Big 5 Lax & Soccer Camps: Lacrosse and Soccer
Where: Held at Fortunato Field, on the corner of Essex Avenue and Chestnut Street in Montclair.
Who: Kids in 5th - 12th grade.
What: One week sessions of soccer. Program will focus on all the basic skills of both sports to get the players ready for the future while having lots of fun.
When: Soccer camps for 5th-12th grade boys & girls (June 28 - July 23) from 9 am - 12 pm.

Montclair YMCA Teen Travel Camp
Where: Montclair YMCA, 25 Park Street, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
Who: Teens ages 13 -15.
What: Summer program of field trips to places that teach leadership. Social and cultural awareness and community service.
When: 9 sessions: June 28 - August 27 from 7:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. (or later, depending on trip destination) Camp day starts at 8:30 a.m.; campers can leave starting at 5:00 p.m.

Explorers Camp at the Family Y
Where: The Helen and Bill Geyer Montclair YMCA Family Center, 159 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
Who: Children ages 9 - 12.
What: A fun-filled summer program with activities such as swim, games, trips to local attractions and more!
When: June 28 - August 27 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in 9 one-week sessions. Before Camp hours offered from 7:30 am - 8:30 am. After Camp hours offered from 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Montclair YMCA Camp at the Lake
Where: Montclair YMCA facility in West Milford.
Who: Children ages 6-12.
What: Full program offering swim lessons, sports, nature, outdoor survival skills, boating, fishing and more. Transportation is provided from 8 convenient locations.

Gas Lamp Players Summer Camp
Where: 37 Clinton Road, Glen Ridge, NJ.
Who: Children in grades k - 7.
What: A five week summer program of classes in singing, dancing, acting, stagecraft, and musical theater history, culminating in an exciting revue with songs and scenes from Broadway shows like Annie, Wicked, Hairspray, Peter Pan, Les Miz, Guys & Dolls, and more.
When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am - 2:30pm , July 6 - August 5. Performances Thursday, August 5 at 7pm and Friday, August 6 at 2pm.

MKA S.T.A.R Camp

Who: Children in grades 1 - 8.
What: S.T.A.R. Camp stands for Sports, Theatre, Arts and Recreation and offers campers the opportunity to sample many different activities throughout the day, as well as an inclusive lunch program and special events and trips.

Camp Junior Museum
Where: The Newark Museum, 49 Washington Street, Newarl, NJ. (973) 596-5149.
Who: Groups are divided according to age as follows: Ages 11 -13, 14 - 15 and 16 - 17.
What: An innovative six-week experience that weaves exciting connections among the arts, culture nature and science. Each day's schedule includes studio art, summer games, creative expression and visits to one or more of the Museum's 80 galleries. Classes are from any of four course areas: Creative Studio Arts, Expressive Arts, Environmental Science and Engineering and Athletics. Each age group participates in four classes per day--two before lunch with a break, and two following lunch with a break and snack.

Montclair State University's Academically Gifted & Talented Summer Programs

Who: Children in kindergarten - high school.
What: The program offers a variety of courses in the humanities, arts, math and sciences.
When: Two three-week sessions are available: June 28-July 16 and July 19-Aug. 6.

Zoo Crew Camp
Where: Turtle Back Zoo, 560 Northfield Avenue, West Orange, NJ.
Who: Kids in 6th - 8th grade.
What: Kids will enjoy a hands-on experience getting dirty helping the zoo keepers while learning what it takes to be a keeper at Turtle Back Zoo.
When: June 21 - August 13 from 9 am - 3 pm.

NJIT Early College Prep Summer Program
Where: NJIT, University Heights, Newark, NJ.
Who: Academically talented students from post-fourth to post-eleventh grades.
What: The programs are designed to encourage students to pursue and successfully complete education in science, mathematics, engineering and technological fields.

Newark Academy Summer Session
Where: Newark Academy, 91 South Orange Avenue, Livingston, NJ.
Who: Children entering grades 3 - 12.
What: Offers courses for advanced credit, enrichment and skill development, as well as preview courses in core subjects. The classes, taught by a talented faculty, are small, providing an excellent academic experience. All summer session classrooms are air-conditioned.

Newark Academy Summer Sports Camp

Where: Kids travel to various hiking, paintball, tubing, and rock climbing locations.

StudioKids Teen Camp

Who: Teens ages 13 - 18.
What: Preparation for a more advanced study in art. Four weeks offering portfolio review, oil painting, life drawing and illustration and ceramics.
When: Portfolio review on July 7 at 5 pm. Camp from July 12 - August 6 from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm.
Cost: Portfolio review - $10 / week one: life drawing $200 / weeks 2 - 4 $250.

Art Garage Summer Camp
Where: The camp will be held outdoors in Montclair in a spacious but sheltered setting that includes time for recreation.
Who: Kids in grades 3 - 5.
What: A new art camp offering an Artistic Creative Bookmaking and a Mosaic Madness Workshop. "Art Garage" will be launched by Fran Legman, fine artist and elementary school teacher at Northeast School and Janet Boltax, a Montclair artist experienced in teaching both children and adults.
When: Bookmaking workshop will run from June 28 through July 9, from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm. / Mosaic workshop will July 12 through July 16 from 10 am - 12 pm OR 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm.

Camp Style

Who: Creative fashionistas ages 10 - 16.
What: Week-long day camp teaching fashion sewing & design and offering a wide variety of techniques and projects for all skill levels. Finale fashion show and photo shoot.
When: 6 one-week sessions from July 5- August 13. "Tween" sessions daily from 10 am -1 pm; teen sessions daily from 2 pm - 5 pm.

School of Rock's Rock n' Roll Summer Camp
Where: School of Rock Montclair, 125 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
Who: Children ages 7-17
What: Students participate in group lessons and rehearsals, learn music theory, and take a crash course on how to ROCK on stage, stay in tune, keep a groove, and have FUN doing it! Special concert at the end of the session at a real music venue.
When: One week sessions starting July 5, July 26, August 2, and August 9. Two week session starting July 12. Sessions run Monday through Friday 9:30 am to 3:30 pm with Saturday concert at the end of session. Early drop off and late pick up available for additional fee

Harbor Haven Day Camp
Where: 1418 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ.
Who: Children ages 3 - 15 with mild special needs.
What: 8-acre private school setting provides an opportunity to experience typical summer activities such as sports, swim, nature, outdoor adventure, drama, dance, music, cooking, bikes, photography, computers, art, gymnastics yoga and more in an environment where success and positive self-esteem are fostered. In addition, social skills group, daily academics and speech and occupational therapy groups are provided within the schedule.

Day Trekkers Summer Camp
Where: Meet at Anderson Park in Montclair, NJ. Campers take an adventure every day to a different location.
Who: Kids in 4th - 9th grade.
What: Super fun camp for kids with a new, location every day. Visit the Bronx Zoo, Six Flags, Sandy Hook, have fun locally by ice skating, rock wall climbing and doing yoga and much more.
When: 3 one-week sessions from 9 am - 4 pm: July 5 - 9, July 12 - 16 and July 19 - 23.

Lotus Yoga Summer Camp

Who: Young yogis.
What: A fun-filled week were kids will be working in fun, noncompetitive ways to develop strong, flexible, healthy bodies and minds. Kids will do yoga, dance, arts & crafts, storytelling, games and journaling.

The Summer Theater Camps
Where: Montclair and Cedar Grove locations.
Who: Acting camp programs suitable for every age (from 5-18) and every level of interest and experience.
What: Four different programs for kids ages 5 - 18: 4-week Mainstage, All the World's a Stage, Little Summer Star's and The Fun of Theater Business. Before and after care available.

Starseed Yoga's Bhakti Kids Drumming & Creative Dance Summer Camp
Where: Starseed Yoga, 215 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
Who: Kids ages 5 - 12.
What: Kids will learn about the origins of music in the drumming portion with Alfredo Villela. They will learn drumming by using the structure of the drum circle. In the creative movement portion, led by Lena Ang, they will express themselves through physical play. By the end of camp, kids will be able to perform an Aztec Fire dance, chant a root mantra, and will offer a Kirtan (a call and response event filled with music, dances, and songs) that Friday evening to their family and friends.
When: June 28th -July 2nd (ages 5-8) and July 5th - July 9th (ages 9-12) from 3 pm - 6 pm.

Learn to Knit!
Where: 214 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ.
Who: Aspiring knitters ages 9 and up.
What: Taught by an experienced knitting instructor + assistant, kids will learn the fundamentals of knitting in a fun and relaxed (and air conditioned!) setting. Children can choose their own project and work at their own pace. They will leave the camp knowing how to begin a knitting project and how to do basic knitting. Instruction in more advanced topics will be available to any interested students.
When: 3 session (all Tues-Fri from 9:30 to 11:30) - 7/6 - 7/9, 7/27 - 7/30, and 8/10 - 8/13.

Express Yourself Studios Summer Art Camp
Where: Express Yourself Studios, 1912 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.
Who: Artists ages 5 - 12.
What: Children will experiment with a variety of media in a fun and supportive environment. They will be encouraged to use their imagination freely as they learn about Master Artists. Campers will create 10-15 art projects per week. Projects will include painting, drawing, mixed media collage, sculpture, printmaking and paper mache. An exhibition and reception featuring students' artwork will be held at the conclusion of each week.
When: Weekly sessions from June 28 - August 27. Ages 5-8: 9 am - 12 pm and Ages 9-12: 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm.
Cost: $175 per week / $150 per week if you register for two or more weeks.

Apple Camp
Where: Local Apple stores (Willowbrook Mall, Short Hills Mall and Garden State Mall)
Who: Kids ages 8 -12.
What: Learn the ins and outs of iMovie and how to make a film in about the time it takes to watch one. From storyboarding to shooting footage to editing, kids will create their own film from start to finish. The workshop, held at the Apple Retail Store, spans three days and leads up to an Apple Camp Film Festival where campers debut their masterpieces.
When: 8 three-day workshops available running from July 19 - July 31.

Diamond Sports Big Apple Career Week
Where: Various NYC and NJ areas. Optional 5 day, 4 night accommodations at Fordham Rose Hill campus or Manhattanville College (optional/subject to availability).
Who: Sports fans ages 14 and older.
What: A special sports career training camp for students interested in learning about how prepare for and secure a position in the ever growing, $400B sports industry. Students will be offered a unique opportunity to meet senior industry executives & rising stars from ESPN, the NFL, NBA, MLB, NY Mets, Major League Baseball Productions, HBO Sports, Bloomberg Sports and more. BlueWaveNJ Youth Summer Enrichment Program
Where: Salvation Army, 13 Trinity Place, Montclair, NJ, 07042.
Who: Kids in grades 2- 5 and 6 - 10.
What: Half-day sessions designed to ensure that children are ready for school in the fall through one-on-one tutoring in all subjects.
When: July 6 - July 30. Grades 2- 5 meet from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm / Grades 6 - 10 meet from 1 pm - 4 pm.
Cost: Free for low income families / sliding scale for higher income families. GlassRoots Bead Camp
Where: 10 Bleeker Street, Newark, NJ.
Who: Kids ages 10 and up.
What: This one week class introduces students to a variety of basic beadmaking techniques enabling students to create simple necklaces or bracelets to take home at the end of the week.

GlassRoots Kiln Camp Fridays
Where: 10 Bleeker Street, Newark, NJ.
Who: Kids ages 10 and up.
What: These one day classes introduce students to the kilnforming techniques of fusing and slumping. Each student will create his or her own designs out of colored glass that will be fused together and/or slumped into a mold to create a three-dimensional form.

Lunar Sports Groups Sports Business Camp
Where: Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center, 8 Quarry Road, Little Falls, NJ?.
Who: High School Students looking to gain insight into the business
of pro sports.
What: This three day camp, brought to you be Lunar Sports Group, will educate students to the wide range of jobs that exist within the sports world. Students will have an opportunity to learn about the business from executives who have practical experience in the field. Through lectures and assignments students will be better prepared students for a career in sports.

Spectra Academy Summer Camp
Where: Zen Center, 22 Lackawanna Place, Montclair, NJ (week of July 12) and Wyoming Presbyterian Church, 432 Wyoming Avenue, Millburn, NJ (week of July 19).
Who: Children and adolescents on the autism spectrum.
What: Spectra Academy serves children and adolescents who function well in most areas but struggle with social skills and peer relationships.We provide a structured yet stimulating environment where youngsters can learn certain skills to interact more competently with their peers. Spectra Summer Camp will meet for two exciting weeks of theater arts, horseback riding, tennis, visual arts and creative movement.

MKA's Summer Jazz Jam Camp
Where: MKA Middle School Campus, 201 Valley Road, Montclair, 07042.
Who: Young musicians in 5th through 8th grade.
What: Learn the basics of jazz music theory and how to improvise a solo from a professional faculty that includes Matt Patuto, Andy McKee. Jazz House Kids Summer Choral & Instrumental Workshop

Who: Kids ages 9 - 18.
What: A full day jazz camp led by world-class faculty and visiting artists. Includes public performances.
