How to Think Like a Worldchanger with Alex Steffen

The Parents' Association of Montclair Kimberley Academy invites you to join them on Friday evening, April 20 for "How to Think Like a Worldchanger" a provocative and insightful evening with Alex Steffen, a leading expert on sustainability and green design.  This event, which is open to the public and free of charge, is part of PAMKA's Academy Forum lecture series.

Alex Steffen is the editor of the internationally best-selling Worldchanging:  A User’s Guide for the 21st Century and has inspired hundreds of articles in the media including features in the New York Times Magazine, US News & World Report, The Nation, and Fortune magazine and on CNN and NPR.  Steffen's optimistic, solutions-focused talks have wowed hundreds of audiences around the world with their combination of practical thinking and visionary insight. From the stage of the TED Conference to boardrooms of leading corporations, to lecture halls in some of the world's most prestigious universities, Steffen has shown a remarkable talent for helping audiences understand the role of worldchanging ideas and trends in their own lives and work.

In former President Bill Clinton's words: “The future is not an inheritance, it is an opportunity and obligation,” and as the New York Times profile said, " Alex Steffen lays out the blueprint for a successful century." Steffen argues that, with some small changes on a global level, we can make a big difference in the future we leave for succeeding generations. Steffen believes that society needs to "think out of the box" and invest in the most innovative designers and thinkers in the fields of science, economics, sociology and health in order to provide for a world that may have to sustain a population of 9.4 billion by 2050.

After working as a journalist around the world, Steffen co-founded and ran the online magazine from 2003-2010, which became one of the world's leading sustainability-related publications with a large global audience.
His most recent work is Carbon Zero, a book describing cities that create prosperity not climate change, accelerating their economies while reducing their climate emissions to zero. He is now at work on a new book and a television project. "The big open secret about sustainability work," he recently told Design Observer magazine, 'is not how bad things are. It is how good things can get." Steffen's blog "Planetary Thinking" can be followed at
