There is a filet with blue cheese melted on top--yummmmmmmm.
So what if the decor is old and tired--the steaks make up for that.

i love the food
and the oner is one of the wormest you can meet,

We found this place to be excellent. The lamb and the filet mignon with blue cheese where delicious and the sauces they were in.... mmmmmm. We would go back.

We had a very enjoyable meal. Maybe a bit pricey considering the decor, but everyone at our table was happy with their food. Excellent service--very attentive and ready to make any accomodations requested. They were especially kind and easy-going with our four year old.

Yes the place is very enjoyable and cozy. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. The steak and lobster melts like butter in your mouth. The shrimp cocktails would be a pleasing appetizer for seafood lovers. The staff spaces out the courses so you have time to enjoy your meal to the fullest. This is a restaurant that will keep you coming back to try other main coures.

We had dinner at this restaurant last night and I have to say it was the best dinner we have had in a long time. We had the steak finger appetizer followed by the Shell Steak special for my husband and Ribeye for myself. All I can say is WONDERFUL!! Juicy, tender and cooked perfectly.
Also, we had a great wait staff. Very friendly and polite.
I thought it was a warm and cozy place. Can't wait to sit outside when it gets warmer!!
This is the best place for steak anywhere in this area. Have never had a better one.
We're definitly going back more often!!

I would not call a place built in 1676
tired, I'd call it Historical. The owner and staff made my family feel totally at home and the steaks are to die for. To any steak lover this is your place. The servings are large and priced accordingly. $24.95 for a 12oz Filet Mignon is very resonable. I had a Ruth Chris's Filet and it was no better but was over $30.00 and not as big.

If want to go local and know before hand that you will have an excellent meal this is the place. My whole family worships it and the people treat you like family Every one raves about the blue cheese lamb and beef, yes it is excellent, but your have go with the FRESH Calamari also the garlic mashed.

I was more than pleased with my meal here last night. Not much else I can say about this place other than that it was a nice relaxing place with good food!

a real throw back to the late 60's --wonderful food and the staff excellent- did i mention the prices -- forget cecere's and eat your steak, baked potatoe and salad here --the best deal in essex county... joy

I found the food to not be that great and the atmosphere and wait horrible. I was told that I had to wait 20 minutes to get seated. 2 HOURS later I finally did. I only stayed because my friends didnt want to go somewhere else that late at night (it was nearly 10 when i was seated). wouldnt go there again.

The food was absolutely delicious! The service was very good. The filet was one of the best I have ever had and I have had beef from all over the United States. The server was very polite and attenitive. The owner treats you like you are family. I will be back again.

They have softsell crabs now! I had one topped on a steak with scampi and my wife had the King Crab Legs Special that was to die for.
Can't TOP the mushroom soup.

To all who have not been there yet. What are you waiting for. This restaurant was reviewed by the Star Ledger Munch Mobile this summer. It was rated in the top 2 in North Jersey. Thats what brought me there. At our table we had a 28 day dry aged NY Strip that was cut with a butter knife with a taste to dye for. Soft Shell Crabs sauteed Francaise style were magnificent. Last but not the lease the Alaskan King Crab legs were huge. They served 2 on the plate that must of weighted around 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of crab meat, the best we ever tasted. Watch out Montclair, Bloomfield has the restaurant thats going on with ample parking on premise. Oh yea, they just started having a comedy show on Wed. nights.

I have been eating here for a little over one year and couldn't be happier. In Aug 2005 i was looking for an apartment in the area and wandered in. It was mid afternoon and the owner, Nick, was there. He served me and treated me very well. He let's his kids pretty much run the place, which they do a good job of. They are young and will undoubtably make mistakes but they are learning the business and i will tell you this, they hustle their butts off to take care of their customers. The food is excellent and I have never heard a complaint about the food and I am in there every week. The waitstaff is very good and look after all the customers needs. I highly reccomend eating there weather you are taking your date there or taking your family. They just need a sign posted telling you where the bathrooms are...LOL.

People, people...please grow up! Get a life! Something!! This is so sad to me. I am Nick's daughter, I live out of state and just happened to be looking up stuff about my dad's restaurant. Stumbling upon this kind of nonsense is funny, really. The immaturity is just oozing from each of your comments. You people are so so sad. The truth is, you were bad employees, interviewees, whatever. If you truly had a bad dining experience at the steakhouse, so be it, but let your bad work ethic and issue with too much time on your hands stay with myspace, not with a restaurant preview site. Seriously. By the way, the crab cakes are to die for!! Hi Dad! Love and miss you!!

Hello, My name is Andres Q. Im the owner of Senorita's Mexican Grill in Bloomfield. I read the tread and I must say that I worked for Nick and his Son and Daughter about 2 years ago. I never had an issue with any of them. I was always paid, and on time. I even remember turning too much money in to Nick one night(I must have been tired) and there was an enveloped with the extra money with my name the next day. I was always treated with respect and they never even raised their voices to me whenever I messed up!! Their food was always great, and I constantly would see Nick standing by the "food window" in the kitchen making sure that every dish came out the way it was supposed to. After I worked there I came back to dine with my family a few times and I've come with my wife many times after I opened my own restaurant, their Jack Daniels steak is out of this world, not to mention the dry age steak, I have never tasted anything like it anywhere else(I eat out at least 3 times a week whenever I am not in my restaurant!!) I believe many of these accusations are bitter ex-employees, it's kind of funny actually, everytime I fire an employee I always get a bad or negative review on my tread too!!!

Posted by Andres Q. | October 24, 2006 2:09 PM

It is very obvious that those of you who seem to have issues with Nick and the restaurant are young and afraid of hard work. All you sheep should get a job at McDonald's where you will have all the time in the world to gossip like the little school girls you are. Nick, you're the man...I love the Chicken Mitola!!

Posted by mike | October 24, 2006 2:57 PM

Andres,

Where do you get off saying you OWN Senoritas?????????????????? Are you serious!

Posted by Mike | October 26, 2006 1:37 PM

hey andreas; get those braces off and then we can talk.

Posted by jfm | October 29, 2006 3:35 AM

You guys are funny, I don't have time for this...I now realize how easy it is for people to say things when they don't have to say it to your face, but think what you want! and say what you need...some things are true whether or not you believe them!!! I simply gave MY HONEST and true experience with Nick and His family!!!

Posted by Andres Q | November 1, 2006 5:38 PM

I find it unbelievable how mean and hateful people are on this site. Why can't you stick to just saying how GREAT the food is here! Instead you have to bash someone's reputation. Please people! Get a life and stop ruining someone else's!

Posted by grres2 | November 3, 2006 7:23 AM

I'm interested in trying this place despite some of the negative comments because there doesn't seem to be any other steakhouses in this area. To be honest with you all, I've lived in Glen Ridge for 2.5 years and I didn't even realize this place existed until a month ago. I'll have to post my comments back to you all once I've had an opportunity to taste. Can't wait!

There's a comment above by HappyEater that sounds exactly like the author of my e-mail--Nick! Looks like he was writing under pseudonyms way before he accused everyone else of being a loser and doing the same. And there seems to be a commonly held belief that "People have wayyyyyy too much time on their hands" --- Ask yrself--how long did it take you? I think I clocked in around 4 minutes. Not bad!

Posted by Ariel | November 16, 2006 9:32 PM

Ariel,

Why do you keep posting such garbage when you have never even eaten there? All you ever did was apply for a job with the PREVIOUS OWNERS! If you want to criticize an establishment, and be legitimate, you need to have at least eaten there to be taken seriously.
I have eaten there many times and find the food AND staff wonderful. NO complaints whatsoever.
And this comment, by the way, took 2 minutes for me to write.

While I personally prefer the Franklin Steakhouse to the Bloomfield Steakhouse, this place is not 1/2 bad. The food & service have always been good and the location is convenient for me. They also have a pretty nice bar area.

Had a great T.G. dinner here today.

Posted by Joe | November 23, 2006 11:47 PM

We read the rave reviews here so my husband, kids and I went for dinner on Sat. night looking forward to a great meal. We got there at 7:30 and the place was virtually empty - a bad sign. The dining room was dreary with no atmosphere. We placed our orders and waited over an hour for our dinners to arrive. As we waited, we couldn't help but notice the food stains and particles splashed on the wall beside out table. Yuck!!! A screw stuck out from the bare wall where, apparently, a picture once hung. I can only imagine the wait if it had been busy. The waitress, although pleasant, was oblivious to the wait and for the most part, our existence. Honestly, my petite filet and the NY strip steak for the kids were no better than Charlie Brown's. CBs at least would of had them out in 15 minutes and we wouldn't have spent a small fortune on a mediocre dinner. We'll stay in Montclair next time!

Was here Saturday night with a group of friends, food and service great as always. Thanks Frankie. See you soon.

Posted by Mike | January 17, 2007 5:05 PM

All I've ever eaten there is salmon, which is always very well prepared.

At my last visit, the mixed greens salad was close to spoiling, but they were gracious about it and didn't charge us.

Prices are a little high, but in general it's a pretty good place.

My husband and I had dinner in front of the fire place. Needless to say it made my night. We had the Seafood Milange, to dye for. Then we split the Surf and Turf. The tail & filet were both very flavorful and tender. We both recommend.

The Bloomfield Steak House is one of my favorite restaurants. We had our rehearsal dinner upstairs and it was fabulous. The flounder stuff with crabmeat is my favorite and the brownie sundae is absolutely delicious. The food and services was great. Frankie is wonderful host.

Where to start. I was reading all of these fabulous comments about the restaurant, and decided to tryit out with my boyfirend.

We both really enjoy a good steaka dn have had bad luck with many restaurants in the area.

We went earlier in the evening to beat the dinner rush.

We ordered the Spanish shrimp... to me it tasted like the sause was made from you traditional American wing sauce, nothing special.

For dinner i ordered a Prime Rib w/ the blue cheese sauce adn my bf ordered the "special" twin tails with a filet.

We received our meals and were both unhappy. My prime rib was alright, however the twin tails were horrible. My bf told me that they tasted bad and i thought too my self how? So i tried them... and it tasted like ammonia or frost bitten. Both of the tails tasted the same way.

We were still calm when we ordered dessert a simple scoop of chocolate icecream.. we received it and both took a bite. The icecream was horrible! It tasted like a chemical as well, then as i looked into the icecream there was this green chunk. My bf said is it an M&M, i took it out of the chocolate and it was squishy. We both spit out the icecream and asked for the check right away!

I felt bad bc the waitress was sooo nice but this was out of hand!

We received the bill and felt totally ripped off we ended up spending $147 dollars for a horrible mean that would cost half as less as Red Lobster. We know this cause we enjoyed an great error-free meal there last night ;)

Other Recommendations:
- Change the format of the dining room, the space is not used correctly adn get more 2-tops...

- Change the chairs. They look skimpy next to the tables, get larger more comfortable chairs!

- Keep the heat up... there are drafts from the windows.

- More lighting on the walls could make it a better atmosphere...

- Check for freshness of food items!

Just curious, Ms. "huh" listed above, did you ever think to complain at all about your horribly expensive food? I'm sure if you discussed the food quality with your server or a manager at the time and not just on this website, you probably would have had your bill discounted and the chemically "enhanced" food could have been brought to their attention and they could have possibly corrected the problem for later customers. If you prefer to just run off without saying a word to the mangagement and instead blabber about your experience as though you're some food and ambiance critic, you're not quite giving the restaurant or non-chain, non-comercial restaurants the fairness they deserve. People like you belong at Red Lobster. Maybe they have "authentic" Spanish stuff there. So, huh.

Posted by curious | February 28, 2007 3:08 PM

Mr. Curious, the price was not horribly expensive, actually just overpriced for our experience with the food. The $ is not an issue, i spend this amount and more reguarly out to eat at restaurants; just never on an experience as such. I mentioned the $ to make a point that the food is expensive, therefore should be treated as such. Im giving this restaurant the fairness it deserves by speaking about my experience, along with the other comments posted above mine. This is a blog, meant for free speech.

Furthermore, I think i should be thanked for the ideas about the ambience of the restaurant. It's not like im bashing, rather advising. Don't take these comments to heart, its simply advice, take what you want and leave the rest.

No, people like me don't belong in chain restaurants, nor do i support them; rather, I try to help restaurants as such by providing them with some insight that others may feel hestitant to say. In fact, I value non-commercial restaurants and am an avid supporter of such.

Overall, this experience could have been bad timing or luck.

Posted by huh | February 28, 2007 4:34 PM

Fair enough....and it's "Ms." by the way, not Mr. Hey, give the place a second go...I've had bad experiences at Red Lobster and I surely have tips on how they can improve their restaurant, but that never stopped me from giving them a second chance. You should really mention your blog and your experience next time and I would almost guarantee you and your man will be taken care of by the owners, regardless of whether money was the issue or not. Just a thought.

My Husband & I used to go there and have one of the fantastic burgers with a choice of one of the great toppings, and the REAL french fries which were FANTASTIC! Haven't been there in a awhile, not eating out as much, but what great people and great service. We'd come in later and they'd willingly serve us the luch burgers! You can order for pick-up too. The creme brulee was great, too, as were the other deserts. No complaints here!

Had dinner here saturday night. Had the dry age steak and my buddy had the chipotte ribeye special. We both enjoyed. Even though they were busy the service and food A+. Had the chocolate creme brulee, wow. If your in to candles you'll love it here, candles lite everywhere. Fireplace also.

Yikes-even after reading all the silliness here we decided to go tothe restaurant and try it. Unfortunately, we were dissapointed. Food was maybe ok and the prices were high for "just ok" food. The kid behind the bar (Frank, I think was his name)when we walked in was cursing like a drunken sailor. I was slightly embarassed and probably should have left then. I can't help but wonder 2 thing-why are so many people so angry with this place-it seems the management is constantly having a war of words with former employees. Doesn't sound very professional to me. And why is "Nick" (maybe the owner or manager?) using this page for free advertising???

Sorry, but we won't be back.

Posted by Ilora | August 13, 2007 11:53 AM

Tried it-won't go back. My husbands food was warm-not hot-warm and mine was cold (2 steaks both medium rare)and the service was REALLY slow and POOR. Sorry, but this just isn't very good.

Posted by Lisahart | November 26, 2007 8:45 PM

We went to the resturant last week, after many years of avoiding it. In reading the coments, we see that this is a changed resturant.

We started comming to the resturant backin the early '90s. Several years ago, the quality of the food took a sudden drop. After two or three bad experiences we stopped going.

Well, our experience last week was outstanding! We had a wonderful meal in a relaxed environment! The menu has changed, but the quality of food is back where we'll be back on a regular basis again!

Our thanks to the new managemen!

My husband and I went to the steakhouse the other night for a belated v-day. We had been on a couple of other occasions. Always found the service spotty but the food was always good. We will definitely not be returning after our most recent experience. Our waitress was a disaster and while she apologized for it, it just wasnt enough. My steak was ordered medium and it came out barely cooked. The thing was practically breathing. Waitress disappeared for 15 minutes so I could not send it back. Ended up eating some of my husbands meal and the mashed potatoes on my plate. In the end, they took it off the bill - rightfully so. We planned on an after dinner drink and some dessert but were so frustrated we just left. With SO many restaurants in the area and the city so close by, we defintely wont waste our time again!

To everyone, my family and I have been going here for years. I had my son Sean comfirmation here with 40 people, my son Ryan had his class graduating party here. These people bend over backwards for you. If there is a problem, they fix it! If you don't like there steaks...??? Go to Burger King , you don't belong here.

Nick you and your family are the best. Thank You:>)

Nick

It's my B'day (3/27)today!! What did you get me?

Posted by COZZ2005 | March 27, 2008 4:29 PM

I've been here a couple of times and the food, for the most part, is good. If you sit at the bar, the young woman that usually runs the bar is an excellent mixologist. She's a bit moody at times, but she gives good service. There is a young man that works the bar on occasion. I'm told he is the son of the owner. I cannot stress enough that you should avoid the bar when this young man is working. He's got a terrible personality - surly and unprofessional; he's the worst bartender I've come across in years. The only reason this guy has a job is that his family owns this place.
