Upper Montclair's only watering hole is often crowded, with predictable, albeit often tasty fare for a restaurant with a salad bar. Get the lobster roll special.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! dont ever go to this charlie browns! this place is very dirty and people who work there are dirty criminals! I went there one time and my check came out to 22 bucks. I paid with credit card and gave the waitress a generous 6 dollar tip, even though the service and food was below average. So that means i should have been charged 28 dollars on my card. I check my balance online, only to find that they took out 34 dollars on my card!!!!!!!!! The workers there added more tip on the receipt!! Thats I was so aggravated! Dont ever go here! They will rob your money!! THIEVES!!!!
Hey jackass, you probally paid your check with a debit card.Your bank automatically adds a 20% grat. to your check, the bank not knowing if you would leave a tip on the card, probally 24 hours for the money to come off your card, RIGHT!!!!!! So why dont you apologize LOSER!!!!!
HAY THESE GUY WHO WROTE About Charlie Browns are 100% right. If you are going on your 1st date with some one and you don't want to see her/him again. This is the place to go
The one in scotchplains/fanwood... even though it was just redone is still DIRRRRRTY and food isn't even good so just avoid charlie browns altogether
It is Charlie Browns what do you expect? Nothing great, nothing really terrible. It is what it is.
Awful place, poor food, poor staff, dirty...nothing good about the place.
I got a soda and the glass was full of 'old food crap' they did not charge me for the meal but hell...how could the idiot staff have filled the soda into the dirty glass...worst thing was it was cola and I drank most of it before I dicovered it!!
Spare yourself the indignity and stay far away for this AWFUL PLACE.
Went last night. Salad bar was below par. Ordered filet mignon. Perhaps it was "aged", as that would explaing the off putting aroma and taste. Even the wife found it to have a nasty after taste. I slathered it with a-1, choked it down and got out as fast as I could
Guarateed that all of these people don't get out much!People you dont know a fillet from a rump roast & you consider yourselves FOOD CRITICS. All
of you check your facts before you label HONEST Businesses THIEVES & before you condemn them DIRTY also the last time I checked Egans was not known for it's CLEANLINESS (morrons!!!).And for all of those that choose to eat out in general the last time I checked if you are not happy with service or food let somebody know & most of the time problems are solved and often guests are compensated.

I never went to charlie bronw before I heard the steak and food is real good I hope to visit one sometime soon my boss eats there alot and she keep talking about the food but she is 82 yrs old well me I am not even half her age but I will want to check it out to see if it is as good as she speak being a younger person
Charlie Brown's is a chain, and like most chains their fare is nothing spectacular. I've been to several of their locations around central and northern new jersey over years, and found them all to be somewhere between average and mediocre.
You can do much better in this area.
Why are people even bothering to talk about Charlie Brown's on here? Everyone knows it's shitty; the steaks are bad and the non-steak items are even worse. My parents go there for the salad bar but I've just never been impressed by salad bars on the same level that they are, so I avoid it. You should do the same. If you must go to a chain steakhouse, I'd say go to somewhere like Outback.
It kinda makes me sad that two of Montclair's liquor licenses are wasted on places like Charlie Brown's and The Office or South Park. When you look at what other places do with theirs (like Egans), it really shows what we're missing out on by letting chain restaurants hog the licenses!
