I have been to Fascino a few times and have always had a great experience. Although it is bustling on the weekends (reservation required), food is always fresh and well worth it. But best of all, service is A+. I would definitely reccomend to all.
WOW! Blown away on Sat. night with their 5 course tasting menu!! DELICIOUS!
One of the few places open in Montclair on a Monday night -- which led to more attention from one of the brothers who runs the restaurant. My friend had the tasting menu, while I started with the Foie Gras over sour Cherries that was light and quite delicious. The favorites in the tasting menu were the Gnocchi -- and then my friend totally enjoyed the polenta like texture of the potatoes that came with his lamb. Service was fantastic. I ordered Pompano for dinner ... the truffle risotto that came with it was incredibly good and not too overpowering.
It took an article in NJ Magazine to find it -- and we will be back.
Definitely over-hyped.We have been their twice(regular/tasting menu) and found the presentation nice but the food ordinary and setting rather blah. Much better choices in Montclair alone. Also on our last visit we were seated late and than told the staff wanted to go home. Go early (or not at all) and remind them they are in the restaurant business(people business).
Took my wife here for her birthday Wednesday evening. The first visit for either of us and we were both impressed. For the appetizer, she went with the calamari while I tried the fettuccine with little neck clams. Best clams I’ve ever had, and I’m from the shore. The sauce for the squid tagliatelle was a little too non-Italian for the missus, but she still cleaned her plate. My Rhode Island Monkfish was good. Not amazing, but tasty enough. Dessert is where they really brought it home. My wife forgot all about the squid sauce as she dug into her molten chocolate cake, and I loved my banana-caramel tart with the hazelnut gelato. Service was terrific all night. I can see how the weekends would be a little crazy but this a great spot for a romantic mid-week meal. Even found parking in front of the place!
VERY VERY UNHAPPY!
The first time I went to Fascino, I was blown away. I went with my girlfriend and the food was excellent; the owner even came over to meet us and because we were sat next to a large, boisterous party, he offered us a complimentary dessert which we obviously accepted.
However, I went back with my girlfriend for the second time (with high expectations)this past weekend and we were very disappointed. Granted, the reservation was late (9:00) but that shouldn't be an excuse for why they were all out of specials. Secondly, after we ordered - we waited 20-30 minutes before our waiter remembered to bring us over bread. Another 15 minutes passed and our waiter then came by and asked how our appetizers were. The thing was... we hadn't received them yet. He apparently lost the ticket. After re-ordering, we waited another 15 minutes and they brought out the WRONG APPETIZERS.
Almost an hour went by and we still haven't even seen our appetizers. The nice bottle of Barolo we were drinking was going to waste (if thats even possible). Once they were done, we eagerly awaited our main course. I got the salmon which looked/smelled delicious. The thing was, it was COLD in the center and had to get sent back.
I have worked in a restaurant before and I usually refrain from sending things back as much as possible but the service this particular night was inexcusable. To top it all off, they brought out a cheese plate which was supposed to be our molten chocolate cake (wrong once again).
I will never go back. It was embarassing. I'm just glad I didn't bring someone there for the first time after talking it up.
Was there for dinner last night with a friend, second visit. Service was attentive and very knowledgeable, appetizer was great-carpaccio and delicate arugula. had the skate on recommendation of waiter-amazing... desserts, were also great
what happened to all the other comments here...there were alot more then just 7 until today?
Hands down one of the best restaurants in Montclair!
I can't believe I am writing the first review on this place! Went there last night and had a very nice dinner. Service and food was great. The portions were a little small, but tasty. Total cost was a little over $200 for four people with tip.
