Folks come for the bands, booze and guilty pleasures of jalapeno poppers, jumbo nachos and big burgers. Sip mimosas and hear live music at Sunday brunch.

Been going to Jakes for some football Sundays with my boyfriend. We really like the place. Its not too crowded and not too smokey. The food is good - the clams are surprisingly great.
Just Jakes is a terrific place to sit outside, and enjoy a drink and a casual meal. For what they serve, I believe it is very good. I enjoyed their Calamari, Their burgers are tasty, and I especially like the cheese steak. I have had other items, but I cannot remember them clearly. I have gone to eat there with vegetarians, and there is quite a lot on the menu to suit their needs. I will say that I avoid going inside for any reason, except to use the restrooms. It is very smoky, loud, and dingy.
I just dragged my whole family out on an icy Sunday morning to enjoy Just Jake's Family Musical Brunch. We had called to confirm it and everything.
When we got there, we were told that there was no musical brunch that day. A private party was being held.
Meanwhile another mom with 3 kids in tow also received this disappointing news AFTER she had also called and confirmed that there would be a musical brunch that day.
Talk about unprofessional and infuriating!
I went to Just Jake's on Valentine's Day the mac and cheese was not good but everything else was wonderful. If you like steak, please try the steak fingers you will love them. Staff was also wonderful.
I returned to Just Jake's to try again for the Jazz Brunch. I am happy to report that this time there were no gliches. The staff was friendly and accomodating, the jazz instrumentals were amicable and VERY kid friendly (even doing jazz versions of my daughter's favorite tunes) and the food was reasonably priced. We have been back twice. So, I think they have redeemed themselves and my previous, angry posed can be considered outweighed by my more positive experiences.
Great jazz brunch! Friendly and fun, with a good (if slightly limited) menu.
Okay- I posted a complaint and then a compliment. However, I had a 10 a.m. reservation for 6 for Mother's Day.
We were just turned away because they didn't have us listed. I am pretty much done with Jake's. It was extremely embarrassing to have to bring everyone back to my home for French Toast after thinking we would enjoy a Jazz Brunch. I am just seething. They didn't even say "Come back another time and we will make up for it." Nope, just "Oops! We're really sorry."
Has anyone been to Just Jake's trivia night?
If so, any feedback? How is it setup? Is it worth checking out?

Jakes has the best happy hour in town...if you need to pay to much...go to Egans or Ceceres. The food is great and the staff is friendly. They have an internet jukebox and two pool tables...plus a golf game.Tuesday night trivia(very hard) rocks! Patio in the summer and the the interior has just been redone( by some excellent painters)...Give 'em a try , you won't be disappointed.
Just Jakes was a lot of fun when Alvaro was there. The new bar manager "shannon" seems to only hire the slow and the dim-witted..!!! And if you're into cliques..you'll be happy when she works otherwise you can join the rest of Jakes former patrons at Egan's. The food is great and the service is average( the waitstaff is green) but the attitude has gotta go!! Who owns this place...mr. tax writeoff.
I disagree with " Attitude"...Shannon has done alot for Just Jakes. She started Tuesday Trivia Night and has really shaped up the staff. Under Alvaro the staff was more relaxed but the customer appreciation was not...good. While its true that some of Jakes patrons go to Egan's the same can be said for Egan's patrons. (People have been known to bar-hop...) The staff are very friendly and know what they're doing. There are plenty of good times to be had at Just Jakes!!!
I work right next door to Just Jakes and often go in for lunch or a drink after work. I go for one reason - Kenny the bartender. Never have I gotten such personal, caring service as I do from this charming, affable young man. He is the jewel in the crown of this establishment and he makes the best martinis.
I thought Ken Ken moved to Cali??? How long has he been back to Montclair.Ilove Kenneth!!!Tell him his old friend Audrey said HI!!
Jake's has suprisingly good food and serves a very important function in town. Where else in town can you drag yourself in, exhausted on a Friday night, eat good BBQ or burgers, and drink real alcoholic drinks( or a variety of beers)? That's right, no where. And there is a good room in the back where famiies are welcome and comfortable.
