Went the other night hoping the new ownership will finally get it right. (Supposedly the new owner used to be affiliated with Ray's luncheonette which has always been tasty). Sorry to say - NOPE - not even close. The chips were stale, the food was bland & did not taste frest and the rice tasted like Minute Rice (couldn't the owner have used Ray's rice recipe - they always had good rice?!). Nothing worse than bad Mexican food....
Was there July 7th There is a 100% improvment in the food.
And yes that's The guy from Ray's Cooking.
my wife go here, she order cake, she eating cake all of a sudden, what is this? what is this she say?? this not taste so much like cake as much as it is pig! owners serving pig as cake?! cannot believe!
thank you.
We ate here recently. It was not good. The food was kind of blah. The whole experience was kind of blah. Has anyone been to the other Mexican restaurant, further east on Bloomfield Avenue?
Has anyone been here recently? Friend of mine wants to eat Mexican this weekend and thinking we should go here. But from the previous comments, I'm not sure
El Toro Loco and Los Tapatios (sp?). These reastaurants are in W Orange/Orange, NJ and they are really good.
Yes! Los Tapatios is *great*. If you like ceviche, you have to try theirs--absolutely fresh and flavorful. Far better than anything in Montclair, and you can choose either the rowdy bar or the family dining room.
Just came back from there..had a great meal..service was good, price very good. They have new owners for a few months, and they really pulled it together.
Give it a try.
Mexicali is so much better under new ownership. Friendly, great food. BYOB from the liquor store across the street.
Recently, there was a sign outside Mexicali Rose stating that it would soon re-open as 'Calypso Joe's' - what I assume is a Caribbean restaraunt. Now, though, the sign says it will be a 'new' Mexicali Rose, with new management and a new menu. Does anyone know what's going on, or who is behind it? We had stopped going to Mexicali Rose after it went downhill, but a better Mexican place in the neighborhood would definitely be welcome.
