Homey, relaxed diner for breakfast and lunch. Comfort food all the way. Not pretentious. Just good food, efficient service and friendly owners/staff. Great neighborhood family diner.
Great hearty diner food and the staff is really nice. It's always packed and for a good reason. Burger and fries A+++
strongly dislike, the place is dirty and the food is medioker
first of all to the lady carolyn who posted this common on Oct 10,2006. The place is always clean. I always see the owners wife on her hands and knees to keep the place clean. Customers are the ones who dirty up the place. First of all when they fo to the bathroom they shit all over and dont have the decentcy to clean it up. No they just wait for one of the busboys to do it or the owner thats ashame they dont do this at home so they should have respect for other peoples place. Also the parents with the kids everything is all over the floor. Right away the owners clean it up. They throw napkins on the floor they just dont care. Plus the owner always gives me soup on the house and its homemade not can garbage like cambells or progresso and the most best is the greek lemon Chicken. So you shouldnt talk like this its not very nice plus they work there asses off from 3am to 9pm 7 days a week.
I had a great turkey burger there last night. Very cute dineresque atmosphere. The kids loved it! It was clean too. We'll be back :-)
Nice owner and staff..
pretty good overall service and food.
I love this little restaurant with all my soul, since I started going there in about 1970 w/ my mother, when it was Louvis'. Great place to go for breakfast or to bring kids. Try the turkey burger, chocolate shakes, fries, omlettes, etc.
Wonderful -- a cherished U. Montclair institution. Anybody who runs this place down gets endless loads of bad karma!
Quality and quantity are always a plus in this place. We bring our kids here very often, with no complaints. The atmosphere is very nice. From burgers to steaks the food is always great. Why pay so much money at a classy restaurant, when you get better food and quality for alot less...
My wife, kids and I have been enjoying the Charbroil for several decades. Though several ownership iterations the staff have remained unfailingly polite and long-suffering (see comments above re bad parenting.) When my wife and/or I return from foreign travel and need an immediate, restorative dose of good American food, the Charbroil is our first stop (well, OK, sometimes the Six Brothers...) And I feel particularly secure in knowing that the vegetable sides with dinner will be unfailingly boring and overcooked: broccoli, spinach, carrots and corn. That quibble aside, I give it high marks for what it is.
This is a GREAT place for breakfast or lunch. We go every week and are NEVER disappointed. The staff is extremely friendly...Just an enjoyable experience!
We went for breakfast yesterday and feel the people are very nice but the food was horrible. Ordered a bowl of fruit and disappointed it was all from a can. My son had a hamburger that was thinner then a pancake. The menu is fine, but the end result makes it difficult to return.
I've eaten here several times, and the quantity and quality of food is more than enough. I'm not sure why Francine would say her son's burger was like a pancake, cause it seems more than enough for me. Perhaps you expect the burger to be the size of a cow's thigh ? Try putting your son on a diet or cook at home, and that way you won't complain.
Insulting other bloggers for voicing their opinion...you're a class act, Angie. Also not cool to insult sombody's child with a comment that's not even relevant. Shame on you for being so rude!
Hi Bob,
I'm not insulting anyone's child. I'm just simply voicing my opinion too.
This is my third time coming here, and each time the food has been great and more than ample. The atmosphere is nice and service with a smile.. We'll be coming back for more...
I ate here last week and was disappointed. Four of us had lunch and all felt the food could be better, and certainly more fresh. Fruit from a can
leaves you tasting 'tin' and french fries were raw. The four of us left with no plans on returning because of the poor food quality.
Came here with a couple of friends for some burgers, and the food was great ! Fries were great too. I guess if you want them more well done, all you need to do is ask... Would return again.
Nice people, terrible food.
Nothing fresh or new or different.
Bread for sandwiches not fresh, tuna salad stale, rusty lettuce.
Nothing wrong with being 'old school' but serving inferior food is not acceptable.
Since moving to Montclair 2 yrs ago, we have been regulars on Sunday morning. This place is WONDERFUL. The consistancy of service is second to none. I would equate the selection of food to that of typical area diners, however, the food is always fresh and comes out FAST. For instance, we had to get to morning Mass this past weekend and only had 30 minutes to order, eat and get to church...however, we went there knowing they would come through for us...and, of course, they did. This family-run business is truly one of the quality restaurants that still cares and WORKS HARD for your business.
Perfectly fine diner. Great place to bring kids. Good burgers. We need more places like this in Montclair and perhaps a few less $80 a dinner sushi place.
