A bargain on buffet dinner nights, this welcoming Indian features lamb, goat, seafood as well as vegetarian dishes. They also pack up nice take-out, too.

Agree, this is a hidden treasure-right behind charlie brown's. We love the take-out food from here. I have never been dis-appointed from here. Curries are terrific, the breads are beautifully cooked, the chicken korma to die for. The one time I made a mistake and asked for the really hot curry, it turned out to be inedible-my fault because I simply didn't know how hot something like that could be until I asked other folks later-and I called the restaurant to complain-they quickly had someone drive over with a replacement-no questions asked, and they apologized. In retrospect I owe them a thanks. The place is always quiet when I go there to pick up my take-out, so no problem getting a seat, but don't take that as a negative on the food.
This is among the best Indian food I've ever had, and I've traveled, lived, and gorged on Indian food all over the world. Natraj Palace rivals Jackson Diner in Queens.
The dishes available on the buffet changes daily, and each dish has distinct flavors rather than the standard one, two, three of other Indian restaurants that feature buffet. The dishes are appropriately spicy, not just "hot" (indicating indiscriminate use of pepper to disguise bland preparation). I've been pleased every single time I've been to Natraj Palace. This is one restaurant I would highly recommend in the Montclair area, and I urge you to try it--keep this place in business (my selfish plea).
I thought I'd update my original comment. I've been consistently going to Natraj since I moved here in August and I have yet to be unhappy. Its by far my favorite Indian place around. I've tried the others in Montclair and I really think Natraj has it hands down. They are also always so friendly.
Ups:
- The food is quite tasty, even better than some nicer Indian restaurants I've been to.
- Like most Indian restaurants, well-priced.
Downs:
- The dine-in environment is dingy
- The buffet always runs out of things and they are slow to replace them, which is why I don't recommend it unless you have time to dine in and wait. Else I recommend take-out for menu items...they do a good job with that.
You know what, I really like this place! The food is really great and the guys are pretty nice as well. Mark and I bought a Hookah from there the other day for pretty cheap and nice quality. I can't wait to try their buffet.
We had take-out last night from their new location at 338 Broad Street in Bloomfield. It was excellent! We had the Chikken Tikka Masala and the Lamb Rogan Josh and Naan bread -- may be our new fave!
I can't believe there aren't postings on this place.
I went the other night for the dinner buffet and took it home. Really great. The right spices and everything. The buffet is a great deal ($11) and has a lot of choices - much more than you'd think. Its good for both vegetarians and chicken eaters.
I just moved here and I plan to make this my new local Indian place. Give it a try.
