Went there last Saturday night and it was really bad. Food was just so-so. Very unpolished even for a low key restaurant. Why on earth do they have French Onion soup on the menu? Too bad, it's a great space with great potential, as well as a great concept (who doesn't love noodles?!)
I can't understand why this place is still in business. I went last week for the second time (I should have trusted my instincts after the first time!) and it is the real definition of mediocre. The food is mediocre, the service is mediocre and why does the water always taste like the glasses still have soap residue in them?? I won't be going back and neither should you.
The most sophisticated and delightful food I've had in Montclair, bar none. Have enjoyed multiple visits, trying both regular menu items and daily specials. The food is superb and the menu variety unique and surprising: these were tastes and presentations I'd expect in 4-star NYC dining at 4-times the price. The atmosphere is very pleasant. The service was slow but oh so worth the wait! Perhaps not for an unsophisticated or American-only tastes.
Please ignore my last post. I'm not really an impartial reviewer. The food at this place is not very good. In fact, it's what some people would call craptastic.
I'm puzzled by the bad food posts. I've eaten at many chinese places and this place is quite above. The grilled salmon is perfect. The Tso chicken is marvelously light and not the leaden overfried lumps you get elsewhere. The dumplings are light and tasty. The Tai dishes are perfectly seasoned. A great place, plus there's parking and the place is big enough to not be deafening.
had lunch there today. quite a pleasant surprise based on your reviews. It was a cross between Aozora and Sri Thai. I had a seaweed salad and pad thai and thought they were exceptional compared to the other highly praised places you have. ie: brookside thai and shiki wok!
We tried this place for the first time last night and it was terrible. Not at all what I expected. The portions were extremely small for the prices.
Tonight I had a wonderful evening at Noodle Central. I remember what the building was like in the 80s, and I think they did a wonderful job with the periodic restoration. The food is great. The menu is made up of staple comfort foods (reason why french onion soup and general taos chicken are on the same page) But with a culinary touch. I thought the Pad thai was perfectly seasoned, and the dumplings in the sweet chili and peanut sauce is to savor. If you think the portions are small, then I think you should be more concerned with your daily intake of food, because I am 6'4", 220lbs and I have not left there hungry ever! If you appreciate historic montclair and it's architecture as well as artisan presentation than Noodle Central will not dissapoint. But if you are a person who butchers a menu by swapping garnishes and condesends the waitstaffs service, than maybe your search for perfection is beyond your realm
I went to Noodle Central for the second time after two years. The first time I went there, they gave me the wrong entrée twice (they wound up not charging me for my dinners and gave us free dessert). I wanted to give it another try because it had just opened the last time I went. The food is tasty, but the service is horrendous. The same waitress was there that I had the first time and she's very cold and stand-offish and awfully close to rude, really. The menu is really unorganized and there is different food on the menu they offer outside that there is on the menu inside. My boyfriend ordered a Thai iced tea (from the owner) before he received his dinner, and the next thing we knew, the owner was just sitting down, slurping soup. He came back when we were done with our dinner and said, "you wanted a Thai iced tea, right?" and we turned it down, we didn't want it anymore. They also charged two dollars for about 3 broccoli stalks I asked to be added to my meal. It's very overpriced, considering it's at the crappy end of Bloomfield Avenue. The waitress also didn't earn a 20% for a tip. I won't be going there for a third time.
Just went here for the frst time tonight. It was awesome highly recommend it!!
