I wrote a review awhile ago but just realized its under the Dai Kichi restaurant. I went to Sushi Hana for lunch a few months ago. I'd go more often except now I have a job. It was excellent. The lunch special was great. Two sushi rolls, a salad, and a miso soup for about $10. It far surpassed what I was expecting. I look forward to returning and becoming a more regular dinner customer.
My boyfriend and I got takeout there on Friday night. It was wonderful. We ordered a shrimp tempura roll with banana glaze - I think called a something monkey. Anyway, it was great. Very different. The other rolls were great as well and the service for takeout couldn't have been faster. This place is great. I think the sushi is much better than Nouveau.
This is, hands down, my fave sushi place in Montclair. The sushi is always fresh, the selections are amazing and endless, and the staff is very pleasant.
I went to this restaurant twice but will not go back again. The menu is so huge. It takes 10min to read all of that. When I asked questions about menu, waitress couldn't even answer. I stock with my favorite appetaizer to start, but it was not good. Next I ordered some special roll which cost $13, thinking that will be big and make me full. It came out nothing big but kind of fancy. The roll tasted OK, but didn't like their soysause, wasabi, ginger, wet plastic share plate...Meanwhile my water glass and tea cup were empty for very long time and never seems to be filled. I was still hungry but didn't want to order anymore and came back home very disappointed.
Me and my wife have been going to Sushi Hana for about 5 years. the food and service are great and the price is reasonable.
My family's favorite Japanese restaurant in Montclair. Good, solid fare-nothing fancy- just wonderful Japanese 'comfort food'.Food is fresh and flavorful. The service is caring and friendly without being overbearing.
best sushi restaurante in town-why? I don't care for sushi, so normally when I have to go to one, cause everybody else wants to go, I am usually subjected to only a single choice-chicken teriyaki-blah. but at sushi hanna, they have numerous excellent cooked dishes as well. staff has always been friendly. we have found if we go for an early dinner with small kids, the place is empty, easy to deal-also they have a nice back courtyard when the weather is nice-service is fine, OK, no complaints except once when they obviously were short-handed. the cooked vegetable platter goes over very well with our kids-as does the miso soup. my wife adores the sushi, I love the chicken and beef with nagano sauce..
I'm a relative sushi newbie, but my fiancee is getting me in the groove. This is the place a friend took her when she closed on her house three years ago, and it's her fave. And I understand why ... I've tried other sushis at other places, and I'm no connoisseur by any stretch, but the offerings here are always tastier somehow ... and the warmth of the servers' vibe just adds to the experience. Plus, their selection of special rolls is quite extensive ... hard not to find something to like.
I think Sushi Hana might be my favorite Montclair restaraunt all around. I just don't think you can beat their high quality, great consitant service, and awesome value. I am always impressed with the inventive rolls and dishes. The swimming monkey roll is one of my favorites, and the fried oyster roll. I just tried the yummy salad, which was better than yummy
Over the years, we have been to Sushi Hana many times (more than thirty to fourty times). The fish is always fresh, the menu continues to grow. The owners Tony and Irene are always friendly. The prices are reasonable. (We normally spend between $30 - $40 per person ordering ala carte.) Sometimes we find the service to be a bit youthful, or be a little English-challenged, but they always try.
excellent food and fresh sushi, i never get tired of coming to Sushi Hana. I love the extensive menu cuz i can always find something new to try and everything is always yummy. Its always nice to come and relax and just enjoy the food away from the bustle of the world while taking a private trip to japan in my mind.
i give a two thumbs up, sushi chef tony consistently serves up excellent sushi, his knife skills are amazing. The fish is fresh and the food in general is great. My favorite is definitely the super white tuna and the toro yumm
for those who like cooked food (like my wife) theres always an assortment available with chef irene ready at hand along with helpful waiters to give some suggestions. Para-para chicken is a joy to have, and its served up flaming, very nice presentation.
I love to go to sushihana, everytime i think of having Japanese food, is has to be Sushi Hana. they have a wide selection of sushi and as well as kitchen food , i was there last night, chef Irene recomended the Tango Grill red snapper, it absolutely delicious. and my friend ordered the Lurchy roll with avocado wasabi sauce and the samba roll, is so good.Is a must-try restaurant
Sushi Hana has always been my favorite restaurant, the service is quick and friendly and the food is fantastic. My kids love the fish tank and food even though theyr picky eaters. Its nice to just enjoy the comfortable atmosphere and savor the taste of the dishes.
was at sushi hana the other night, and i was pleasantly surprised to find that they have come up with a NEW menu!! no more extra papers, the new format is chic and incorporates new dishes in with the original ones. all of the special rolls were included and everything you need is in there from vegetarian section to a section for the sushi bar fanatics.
I started out my evening with the coconut shrimp, the tango grill with tilapia as my entree, and finished off with the Lurchy roll( wrapped in white seaweed for a unique touch.
new and improved on a whole new level
warm family friendly place to relax and just enjoy dinner, the new specials are awesome and everything is always wonderful throughout the years theyve been in town
Regular at sushi hana. fish is fresh, new items on the menu, friendly staff, and great dining experience. was there with 4 others the other night, we had 6 apps and 8 rolls, $50/person. well worth it every time.

Horrific experience. Just came back from Sushi Hana tonight, and was less than impressed.
The service was terrible, we had 4 different adult servers, none of whom understood the menu. And we even had 2 different 10 year old girls serving us...I guess they were the waitresses children...totally inappropriate.
The miso soup was too salty, the lettuce was brown, and my soup spoon was burned from the dishwasher. While the fish seemed fresh, the quality was extremely mediocre. We left at least 5 pieces of sashimi uneaten because of the poor quality. The tuna was stringy and inedible. Surprisingly, the mackerel was good. There was also some sort of brown (yes, brown) fish that actually tasted good...i think it was tuna belly.
We should have left without paying after the crappy salad and soup...but I was overruled against my better judgment. Then I noticed the camera outside, and realized that they must have had lots of "dine and dash" problems...which isn't surprising considering the crappy quality of this restaurant.
Needless to say, we didn't leave a tip, and we will never go back again.
I'm confused by all of the good reviews. I guess the restaurant attracts a less sophisticated client?le as far as sushi is concerned...but if you have a pretense of enjoying good sushi, don't come here, go to Nori or any other place in town. I need to go brush my teeth now to get the flavor out of my mouth. Feh.
A week does not go by without an order of miso soup, chef's roll and edamame. My favorite Japanese restaurant in Montclair!
Service could be better.
Whenever I cannot decide what to eat I know that I will end up in Sushi Hana. I can sum it up like this: consistent. I know that I am getting good quality sushi. The specials are good, when they add something new it is good. They are always friendly and service is good. The liquor store is around the block for a (mediocre) bottle of saki, but you can't complain about anything that goes on in this restaurant. It is always a safe bet that your favorite Japanese dishes are there, unchanging and reasonably priced. They have a good kids menu too.
