Cool, working-class, neighborhood place. good beer, good burgers, but holy s**t, EVERYONE was smoking! I seriously counted a couple dozen (out of about fifty people, that's a lot).
I'm not an anti- smoking nazi, but when you add it up, the air in there is downright unhealthy

just as described above. Local pub. Great place to go drinking. If you want to grab something VERY simple and greasy to eat this is your place. Used to be REALLY smokey, but thanks to the NJ laws that is gone.

this place is great when you just want to hang out, grab a beer and burger. Diverse group of people and very unpretentious.

I was told this is a great place to get a burger and was very happy with mine. Was disappointed that some of the disgruntled bar staff. The bartender when I was there was very rude and made the experience very unsatisfying. But I will take the word of others who have been there and won't let that experience tarnish my opinion of the place. Overall food and atmosphere (minus the rudeness of one person) was satisfactory.

TIERNEYS is a great place!!!!! some of the bar staff needs to lighten up and I don't mean their work load! it is the last of a dying breed. True Americana!tierney's Good!!!!!

I won't be back. The bar staff is so unbelievably rude is unreal. Hey, pal: I didn't tell you to get the job. The guy screws up my order, takes nearly an hour to get me a cheeeseburger and fries, and then acts like it's somehow not part of his job. When was the last time you were at a bar and someone threw your drink cup is the trash without asking if you wanted a refill? They so thoroughly messed up my food order and all the guy had to say was sorry about that. Or maybe a free refill on my coke he tossed in the garbage. An unbelievable chip on his shoulder. I have news for the Tierney family: all they have going for them is neighborhood charm. If you can't even hire a somewhat pleasant bartender good riddance. I don't care how good the hamburgers are I'll never step foot in the place again if I live in town for another 30 years.

I'm sure that Tierneys will somehow continue to thrive despite not getting your soda business, Burger and free refills do not exactly pay the bills. "all they have going for them is neighborhood charm" that and Great burgers, Great music, fantastic people, you will not be missed.

Went here on a Saturday night recently, was everything I hope for in a bar. Good crowd, good service, buybacks. Can't comment on the food but I'm sure I will eventually.

Still my favorite Irish bar/restaurant in essex county. The staff is friendly and familiar and it's a well-known fact their burgers are THE BEST around!!
