I highly recommend Nori to any sushi-lover or any non-sushi person because not only is thier sushi superior but other menu items can't be beat. I've also only had great service here. A++
Checked Nori out the other day. They have an amazing assortment of creative rolls. Wide selection of non-sushi items as well. I had one roll with Kiwi! They gave us free samples of the Specials. Great service, as it seemed we had at least 3 Waitresses checking up on us. They had a beutiful room in the back which probably could be used for private parties. Only problem we had was that they forgot a part of our order. However, they quickly brought out the food they forgot, once we had notified the waitress. Nori, is the new Sushi king in town!
This was a joyous meal...down and dirty sushi without any effort to be Nobu in the 'burbs. The fish was fresh- Salmon, Striped Bass, and Yellowtail were especially tender and flavorful. Ordering the fish as Sashimi was as satisfying as any full sushi order...there was no skimping here. The jalapeno roll and a modified California roll with spicy tuna caked on the outside were also tasty. I'd like to find something to complain about...but I can't. This was the best sushi I've had in NJ.
I've seen been back (at least 3 times) and it appears as though the service has worked out its kinks. The sushi is indeed fantastic and, while not a fan of rolls per se, they have some great ones (the Snoopy role is awesome!) Meanwhile, Aozora has left me underwhelmed in my last few trips (but that's another thread . . . )
not what i would call the best sushi in town, not after eating at Sushi Hana, is it a joke when you say nori is the new sushi king? you are mistaken because Sushi Hana has and always will have that position
This is hands down the best sushi in Montclair. I prefer the ambiance of Aozora and if entertaining out of town guests, the decor at Aozora is much nicer. However, we live in Upper Montclair and will GLADLY drive downtown and deal with the parking to eat at Nori. Try the The Knock Out Roll which is is absolutely unreal as is the Wasabi Shrimp appetizer. I can't eat any other sushi in town anymore! Honestly it's better than most NYC sushi restaurants.
My husband and I frequent Nori quite a bit. The sushi is fresh and melts in your mouth. The variety is also amazing. I have yet to have better sushi in Montclair or anywhere else actually. I do love Aozora but I found Nori's sushi and sashimi to be better. I will NOT go back to Sushi Hana. The one and only time I have ever been there was not worth it. There was a strong fishy smell when we walked in (fresh fish does not have that strong of an odor for those who will say that it is a sushi restaurant) and the staff was not helpful at all. They forgot quite a bit that night. The icing on the cake was that 2 members of our party had food posioning that night after eating there. Maybe it was an off night but it was enough to keep me from going back. Nori will get my business from now on.
Nori is by far the best sushi in Montclair. My husband and I are sushi snobs, only thinking that NYC had the best sushi, especially after we'd tried all the Japanese restaurants in Montclair. Once we discovered Nori, we realized that it is possible to have great sushi outside of Manhattan. The service can be spotty, but they're just so nice, it's hard to find fault. And, they're great with my kids which is a definite plus.
Had lunch yet again there today. I have only gone there once for dinner, and can say the lunch menu is where its at. They have lots of creative rolls that incorporate fruit or peanuts. Price for lunch is also a bargain for sushi if you get the roll combo.
Nori has quite possibly the best sushi in the area. It is easily better than Yoshi and Aki. Definately recommend this place to anyone who is looking for sushi in the area.
I like Nori. Granted I've only been to Nori and Nouveau Sushi and I definitely prefer Nori. No hating on NS but I just liked the food and atmosphere better at Nori. Looking forward to going there tonight. Oh and yes, the menu variety/selection is excellent.
Went recently and was underwhelmed by the food and service (Aozora is infinitely better not to mention Nikko's or Sakura Bana.) However, what INFURIATED me the most was that my bill was tallied wrong (the server noticed this when they brought me the check) and then promptly went back to correct it. When I checked my bank stmt a few days later, sure enough, I'd been charged the incorrect amount (~$15 more) which I've yet to try and rectify. A green staff at opening is to be expected as are bungled orders, misplaced dishes etc. However, this to me is beyond the pale.
