Marrakech is great. one of my favorite reasturants. i hav ebeen eating out in monclair form the origianl blue sky cafe days, and for food and EXPeriance, this is it.
I would defentily have the lamb tagine, the tea and the desert. They are very freindly, everuthing is cooked by their mother and father. cery authentic. i Just wish they served hummeus.
Sorry, i should have spelled checked.
I would definitely have the lamb tagine, the tea and the desert. They are very friendly; their mother and father cook everything. Very authentic. I Just wish they served hummus.
We were there the first couple of weeks it opened, and I hope things have changed. I found a huge hunk of cellophane in my tangine, and there was seemingly no concern on the part of the staff...no apology, interest or even an offer to comp. the food when I pointed it out. Service was truly awful. I do hope they have improved...but, we won't go back.
I was there two weeks ago and had the lamb tagine. It looked and tasted like it was pressure cooked, no seasonings, and was just placed on a tagine and they called it a tagine. It was plain bland.
My partner had couscous royale and it was flavorless as well. You would think that this dish, being a moroccon staple, would have merguez sausages. When we inquired, they said they couldn't get it anywhere near. Talk about being authentic.
The only thing I enjoyed was the wine. Oh wait, we brought the wine.
A few people suggested we have dinner at Marrakech and tonight we did. We didn't love the food. We shared a Moroccan Salad that was very oily. I ordered couscous with lamb and vegetables. The vegetables were mushy and the lamb was very dry and absolutely tasteless. My husband had shrimp kebabs and they were just okay. The owner circled around for a while but never stopped to talk to anyone and the restaurant was not crowded on a Thursday evening. Lalezar a few doors down runs rings around this place!
We ate there last night and we were disappointed. The service was very quick, so that was a plus. The mussels in saffron appetizer was very good, but the main course was awful. We both ordered lamb. I had the lamb with prunes, sesame seeds & almonds while my husband had it with the peas. Both of us found the lamb to be stringy & tough. It was a shame because we're really trying to find a great Moroccan place outside of NYC.
My husband and I have been going to Marrakech since January. We fell in love with the food, the decor and the wonderful service. We bring all our friends there and they end up being customers, too! The chicken tangine is my favorite, but honestly, anything on their menu is out of this world. I can write a novel on how great this restaurant is. The staff is super friendly, polite and they really make you feel like part of the family. If you are looking for a real Moroccan experience, Marrakech is the place to go. I know we will continue to eat there once a week, yes, it's that awesome! :)
I am happy to be the first person to comment on Marrakech. I have been here several times and it is excellent. Beware you will be waiting for your food, but it is not due to bad service, all the food is prepared to order. If you go in knowing you will be there a while, you will be very happy. I have several friends from the middle east and they all say the food is very authentic. The owner always stops by the table and is very nice. Enjoy!
