Ruthies opened with little fanfare a few months back - but there is nothing shy about its pizza. Hands down, the best in town: thin, fragrant crust, excellent combination of cheeses and a delicous, homemade sauce provide the basis for an irresistable pies. I get hungry just thinking about it. To my taste, it is just far superior to the rest of Montclair's pizzerias.
I have not tried the bbq - but if it is anything like that incredible pizza, you've got a winner.
Staff is friendly. There is a clear focus on quality ingredients and simple, flavorful preperation.
Great thin crust pizza, try the Classic.
Very good BBQ brisket and great homemade fries, will try again
Just tried the pizza and have to agree--the best in town! Crust was divine, pizza saucy and cheesy at the same time. You can tell that very high-quality ingredients go into this pie, and it is not more expensive than the other joints.
Unfortunately, it was very quiet in there... I hope this place does well b/c it certainly deserves to.
The Ruthie's Classic pizza is quite good. As far as Montclair goes, this pizza is the best I've had. They often offer to add fresh basil and pesto sauce to it. If they do, take them up on it.
The pulled pork sandwich platter is good BBQ and the fries that come with it are done well, more like crisp roasted potatoes to me.
I haven't eaten in here but it seems pleasant enough for a very casual meal, though the decor strikes me as spartan. For take out this place is one of my favorites.
This is a good take-out, eat-in joint, with a comfortable rear al fresco porch for when the weather's nice...the pulled pork and pulled brisket were both good, perhaps the sauce was a bit too sweet. The fries and their dipping sauces were fun, and the red cabbage cole slaw was interesting. The pizza looks great: thin crust, lots of tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese...We'll try it next time.
