I ate here last week for lunch with a friend. While the place is quite pretty and really clean the food was less than average - in fact, we found everything we ate from salad, to soup to sushi bland and boring. Another scary thing was the smell of fish coming from the sushi bar - smelly fish is NEVER a good thing. I would not go back - there are so many sushi places in town why bother with one that isn't even average!

Just enjoyed an exceptionally fine meal at Toro-- excellent food, good-size portions, warm and friendly staff. One of the very best Japanese/Sushi restaurants in the Montclair area. Highly recommended!

I took the family and some Japanese friends to Toro over the weekend. We had a great meal. The chef made excellent recommendations based on what was freshest, and even suggested a few off-menu items that he created for us. It's always a good sign when the owners and chef of a sushi restaurant actually speak Japanese.
We were also happily surprised to find out that on Sunday's there is a 30% discount on sushi and rolls. We didn't even realize this until we got our check. So far, this is the best sushi option in the Upper Montclair village area.

DH and I ate here a couple of weeks ago, shortly after they opened.
We both love sushi and this place didn't disappoint us.
A little on the pricey side but we had nice size portions and great service.
I would definately recommend this place.
