Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Here's the listing description from the GSMLS (listing agent is Coldwell Banker) Coldwell Banker...

Introducing Daybreak, Montclair's most prestigious estate meticulously restored with museum quality details and fixtures. Never before has a home of this quality and scale been available in Montclair. Open house to be announced at later date. Must be prequalified. LA [listing agent] to accompany all showings.

Just so we don't confuse Strahan's house at 99 Lloyd Road with another Daybreak, we go to an explanation here from Baristaville historian Frank GG.

Here are the numbers on the Strahan estate: $7,750,000 gets you 2.3 acres, 30 rooms (10 bedrooms), 5 fireplaces, 10 car garage, and annual taxes of $82,418. No photos with the listing yet, but here's a look at one of the bathrooms. Update: The Star-Ledger picks up the story.

What a perfect house to raise a dog in.

OMG, that bathroom is bigger than my old apartment!

Houses that big are just obnoxious, especially if it's just two or three people living there. If a small village moves in, then I guess it's ok.

A 10 car totally unfinished garage that's cracking. A pool that has to be totally rebuilt. "Landscaping" if you stretch your imagination that is basically weeds. Remember the movie the Money Pit? However, she did bring her price down from $12,000,000.00. I guess $7mil is a bargain, if you're an idiot!

Taxes of 82K, if accurate, suggests the house's recent evaluation was under 4Mil.

The house is assessed at $3,833,400. Either the asking price is way over priced, or the Strahan's got the sweetest assessment in town during the revaluation - paid for by the rest of us.

As a single mother, I could comfortably live on what they pay in taxes. Hard to believe there was a complaint on their part with financial struggles.
If only they knew what struggling meant.
