With about 100 properties showing, it’s shaping up to be another busy open house weekend in Baristaville. There is a lot of variety at all price points, but many familiar listings. New offerings and reductions are in the minority.

Name that Holiday Window Contest

Have you ever closed your eyes and wondered what Bloomfield Avenue looked like, once upon a time, during the holidays? Window displays that twinkled, children’s faces pressed against the glass, the Salvation Army Band playing on the corner. Baristanet is working to bring some of that charm back so we are sponsoring a Montclair Center Holiday Window Competition. How boring does that name sound, “Holiday Window Competition”? I nodded off just typing it and now I have the letters (TYUIO) imprinted in my forehead and it is not a good look for me.

You people did a fantastic job coming up with the name “BOOO-ristanet Halloween Ball” for us and now we need a clever name for our Holiday Window Competition. Click here for more information about the competition and encourage your favorite stores to dress up their windows and compete.

The judging will take place on Friday, December 9th. There will be live music throughout the downtown area and other fun goodies and best of all, when you vote for your favorite window, you will be entering into a drawing for all kinds of fabulous prizes. Those of you who came to The BOOO-ristanet Halloween Ball know what I am talking about.

With about 90 properties showing, it’s shaping up to be a somewhat slower but still busy open house Sunday in Baristaville. Listings at or under $500,000 dominate this week. However, a wide variety of towns, styles and prices are represented. Even Glen Ridge has four houses open.

There is truly something for everyone when it comes to this weekend’s open houses. About 110 properties are showing, ranging from a $159,000 Condo in Bloomfield to a grand $2.5 million Colonial in Millburn. There’s also a variety of styles available, most notably an ultra-modern Contemporary in Maplewood. New listings and reductions are plentiful.

It’s a good time to buy in Baristaville, but for those not ready or seeking a simpler living arrangement the rental market is attractive as well.

Of the 43 or so rentals listed on the MLS priced at $2,000 a month and under, 10 are in Bloomfield. Offerings in the town range from a one bedroom listed at $1,000 to a house for $2,000.

The economy remains uncertain, but reductions are a sure thing in Baristaville this weekend. About 65 properties are showing in all. Some towns, notably Maplewood, West Orange and South Orange, are better represented than others; Glen Ridge has been quiet for weeks now.
