Bloomfield Crime: Shoplifter Threatens Home Depot Guard With Knife

Just in from the Bloomfield Police, last week in crime in 07003:

ROBBERY

2-6-2012 60 Orange Stree [Home Depot]. At 0755 hours, a suspect threatened a security guard with a knife as he was fleeing the store with stolen merchandise.

2-06-2012 Washington street at Lackawanna Plaza. At 2235 hours, the victim stated that he was approached and surrounded by three male suspects, one of which demanded his cell phone. Two of the suspects were apprehended minutes later by patrol officers responding to a 9-1-1 call from the victim. Continue Reading

Multiple Burglaries in Bloomfield, Vandalism in Montclair

The Bloomfield Police Department reported burglaries last week on Sylvan Road, Aldon Terrace and N. 17th St. and an attempted burglary on Willow Street, in which the perpetrator dropped the TV he was about to steal and fled when the homeowner came downstairs.
Two locked bicycles were stolen, one on the 160 block of Broad Street and one on the 200 block. A wallet snatching was reported by a pedestrian walking near the intersection of Watsessing Ave. and Florence Ave. Cars were stolen from Donna Drive and the intersection of Glenwood Ave and Lackawanna Plz. Three cars were broken into and had GPS units stolen. One car had a handicap placard stolen.

Bloomfield Police Blotter: Robbery and Criminal Mischief

May 9: A resident on North 17th Street reported he heard his car alarm and went to see what happened. The resident said he observed a green van with a male driver, and another male in the driver seat of his car. The driver of the van yelled to the suspect in the car and the suspect ran into the van. The van fled the area followed by a white sedan. Part of the license plate was obtained (YKE) from the van. The suspect had tried to remove the radio from the victim’s car.
May 8: The victim reported his car parked on North 17th Street had its windows pried open and the window glass broken. The suspect(s) then ransacked the interior of the car. It is unknown at this time if anything is missing.
May 8: A car parked in a lot on Conger Street had its rear taillight broken.
May 7: A Newark Avenue resident reported that UPS delivered two packages to their home. When the resident returned home the packages were missing.
May 6: A Fairview Place resident stated that his black tool box was left in the basement in a common area. The tool box was broken into and approximately $10,000 in tools are missing.
May 4: The back of a car parked on Beekman Street was spray painted in silver colored paint.
May 3: A robbery occurred at a Grove Street store. The cashier said a man wearing all black, black hair and pock marked face, came into the store and demanded money. When the cashier refused the suspect came behind the counter and punched the victim in the face. The suspect grabbed $400 from the register and ran towards Elmwood Avenue.

Bloomfield’s police blotter this past week features numerous break-ins and lots of missing jewelry.
March 28: When returning home, a Rogers Place resident noticed a rear window open in their home. The resident went upstairs to the bedrooms and found that both were ransacked. Missing at the time was a variety of jewelry.
March 25: After being a way for a couple of days, a Jersey Street resident returned home to find his apartment burglarized. The resident told police that someone entered his apartment through a window near the fire escape. Jewelry, a laptop and two digital cameras were missing.

Two men impersonate inspectors to gain entry to home.
On March 9, a resident of Mc Cleod Lane reported two men (Hispanic or Indian) rang her door bell saying they were from the water company. One of the men claimed there was a water leak at a neighboring house and he needed to check her basement. The resident led one of the men to the basement, and she believes that the other man went up stairs.
After about 10 minutes both suspects left the house quickly. The woman checked with the neighbor and the town, to confirm there was no water emergency. The suspects were not found in the vicinity, but one person noticed a blue van with windows that does not belong in the area.
Woman punched, robbed in front of home; two more street robberies.
March 13, a woman living on the 10 block of Floyd Avenue stated she was putting out the garbage when a man approached her and punched her in the face. The suspect took the victim’s cell-phone and attempted to rip off her gold chain, then ran west bound on Floyd Avenue.

Bloomfield Police Blotter: Criminal Mischief and Theft

Eight counts of criminal mischief, five of which happened to cars, took place between March 1-7. A Farrand Street resident reported on March 1 that someone had smashed the driver side rear window of her car then pried open the gas door and pour sugar into the gas tank. The victim said she believes she knows who did this to her car but can’t prove it. There is a video camera in the lot and it will be checked to if the damage was recorded.
A car on Hoover Avenue and on Berkley Avenue had their tires punctured throughout the night on March 3. Cars continued to get the brunt of the mischief on March 7 on Donald Street with reports of a car windshield smashed on Donald Street and a car’s hood, driver’s side door and hood of the car were scratched on Ella Street. Another car was scratched on the entire length of the driver side on Spruce Street that was parked on the street.

Bloomfield Police Blotter: Jewelry Store Robbed

A jewelry store on Broad Street was robbed Feb. 27 according to Lt. Richard Wallace. The suspect went into the store to sell gold chains. The jeweler agreed to buy the gold for $12,000. When the jeweler went to pay the suspect, he grabbed both the gold and the money and ran out of the store heading north on Broad Street. The suspect is described to be a black male, about 6′, between 25-30-years-old, wearing a black baseball cap, eye glasses, a black jacket and jeans.
There has recently been a pattern of delivered UPS boxes being stolen from peoples doors and porches. The most recent theft occurring on Feb. 24 at a Conger Street residence. The resident reported that the package was delivered and UPS confirmed the delivery to sender but the package was gone when the resident returned home.
“Over the past couple of months there have been a few more UPS thefts that usual,” Lt Wallace says. “If you are going to get a package arrange with UPS to have it signed for.”

Bloomfield Police Blotter: Burglaries, Theft, Arrests

Stolen snow blower, stolen purses, and missing jewelry after a subcontractor inspection…here’s the crime report for Bloomfield:
Burglaries
Feb. 1: A resident on Sunset Ave reported that intruders had entered the home by prying open the side door. Jewelry was missing.
Feb. 2: A resident on Belleville Ave was away from his apartment for a day. When he returned, he found a bicycle, watches, a TV and game console, among other items, missing. There was no sign of forced entry.
Feb. 4: An unknown person or persons cut the window screen of an apartment on Beardsley Ave, gained entry and stole a resident’s black Guess purse. The purse had the victim’s drivers’ license, credit and bank cards and $250 cash in an envelope.

Bloomfield Police Blotter: Carjacking and Mischief

A driver was robbed while driving on JFK Drive when he pulled over on Olive Street to make a phone call on Jan.29. The driver reported that a Hispanic male approached his vehicle and asked for a light for a cigarette. As the driver opened the window the suspect opened the door and ordered the victim to give him his money, motioning like he had a gun. As the driver was getting his money ($400) from his pocket the suspect reached into the car and removed a GPS. After taking the money and GPS, the suspect fled on foot on Olive Street.
On Jan. 30 Watsessing Avenue a resident reported that while walking home a black male approached her and grabbed her bag as she reached her driveway. The suspect fled on foot towards Bloomfield Avenue. The victim’s bag contained personal papers, walking shoes and a newspaper.
Four counts of criminal mischief were reported on Jan. 25. The back of buildings, windows and a garage were reported being spray painted on Myrtle Avenue, Broad Street and Dodd Street.
Also on Jan. 25, a woman reported that her purse was stolen while she was at a nail salon on Bloomfield Avenue. The victim reported that she put her diamond ring into her purse while getting her nails done. Another woman, described as a Hispanic between 20 to 25-years-old, was sitting in the waiting area. The Hispanic female then got up and grabbed the victim’s purse and fled on foot. Along with the diamond the purse contained a wallet with $150, credit cards, NJ driver license, and car paperwork.
