Dogs of Anderson ParkThe Dogs of Anderson Park with Pet Photographer Beth Burstein, now in its second year, will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds will go to The Friends of Anderson Park who tirelessly take care of the plantings and the maintenance of the Olmsted-designed park, a favorite spot for walking dogs.

The park was hard hit by Hurricane Sandy, losing many trees, including a few of its very large originals. New plantings went in during the past month and this fundraiser will help raise funds for future plantings and park upkeep.

Half-hour time slots must be reserved in advance. The session fee of $60.00 per dog includes one custom 5×7 color print.

For more information or to reserve your pet portrait session time slot, contact Beth at either: beth@bethburstein.com or www.bethburstein.com

Montclair Art Museum The New Spirit

Jonas Lie: The Black Teapot

This weekend, the Montclair Art Museum went back to modernity with its exciting exhibition, The New Spirit: American Art in the Armory Show, 1913. Celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the original Armory Show, this tribute to The International Exhibition of Modern Art immerses visitors in the artistic mores surrounding the planning and building of our own Montclair Art Museum, which will celebrate its centennial next year. Showing through June 16th, 2013, The New Spirit is stunning and colorful, and it feels every bit as modern as it was during its three-week stay in Manhattan during the last century.

As co-curators, Gail Stavitsky, MAM’s chief curator, and guest curator Laurette McCarthy have re-created the Armory Show’s original atmosphere with yellow canopies, burlap-covered walls, and greenery framing the entire exhibition. These environmental efforts are appreciated and effective, but they can’t compete with the vibrant artwork on display.

Montclair Dog Wash Benefit Makes a Splash

BY  |  Friday, Dec 07, 2012 4:00pm  |  COMMENTS (4)

More than $500 was raised at a dog wash to benefit the Friends of Montclair Township Animal Shelter (FOMTAS) held recently at Montclair Feed and Pet Supply. Twenty dogs were brought in by their families to get freshened up in the dog washing tubs at the back of the store and ranged in size from a tiny Shih Tzu to a massive English Sheep Dog. The manpower was provided by students from Montclair High School, and the use of the tubs, water, and shampoo were generously donated by store owner Joel Tabor.

Annette Kuehn, faculty advisor for the Key Club at Montclair High School, organized and recruited the students for sudsing up and toweling down the pooches. Students included Natalie Ackerman, Stella Balsaminni, Seth Campbell, Isabel Kashi, Hallie Meisler, Cristina Renee Pilego, Beryl Rosenblum, and Tamara Sullivan.

All proceeds went to Friends of Montclair Animal Shelter (FOMTAS), a newly formed 501c3. The mission of the FOMTAS is to support the work of the shelter through fundraising for needs above and beyond the shelter’s budget, further enhancing the quality of life for the animals at the shelter. FOMTAS strives to raise awareness of the shelter’s adoptable animals, educate the community on responsible and humane companion animal care, and assist in connecting the shelter’s animals with families who can give them safe and loving homes.

Based on the success of this event, another dog wash is already being planned for the spring.
