Luna Stage will host the world premiere of Mercy and the Firefly, a new play by Amy Hartman tonight, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. The play runs Thursday’s at 7:30 p.m., Friday’s and Saturday’s at 8 p.m., and Sunday’s at 2 p.m. through March 13. Come out to hear “Slippery Slope” composed of the duet Liquid Larry and Meg Beattie Patrick this Friday at Sesame tonight, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. The smooth duo will perform original music and covers. The set will end at 9:30 p.m. Sesame is located at 400 Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair.
Photographer and artist, Yasmeen Anderson, will be giving a lecture at the Ethical Culture Society of Essex County Saturday, Feb. 19. The event is part of 3rd Saturday Arts Night and will be from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free. Anderson will discuss how she turned her passion into a profession. Light refreshments will be served. The Ethical Culture Society is located at 516 Prospect St. in Maplewood.
The Hawthorne Symphony Orchestra’s concert on Feb. 20 will star Bloomfield’s own Alison Bolshoi. She plays the leading role of Leonore (disguised as Fidelio) in their production of Fidelio. Tickets are all $20 or less. For more information on their concerts and tickets go to their website.
Montclair State University will host screenings of the 2011 Oscar nominated short animated films and short subject documentaries this Sunday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to first session (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) is $10 and $15 for the afternoon session (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) and $20 for an all day pass. Seton Hall University’s Department of Communication and The Arts presents The Robber Bridegroom, beginning Feb. 18, at
the South Orange Performing Arts Center located in downtown South Orange. The musical is the first Seton Hall Theatre production of the New Year and is directed by Pete Reader, a professor in the Department of Communication and the Arts. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Feb.18, 19, 25, and 26, and 2 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 27. Tickets can be purchased through the SOPAC box office or by calling (973) 313-2787. Tickets are $15 for regular admission, $12 for alumni, children and senior citizens and $8 for students (with a valid ID), faculty and staff. A special student rush ticket is available for $5 one half hour before curtain.
